Here I am

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission My six has always felt more like a throbbing V-8 than a smooth six; why?

I just had it tuned up and they made no comment about it on the test drive. Injectors? Valves? Injection pump? Where do I start looking first?:(

Tuned up???

I do not know how you tune up a diesel- they do not run like gassers- smoothness is not in the vocabulary- mine is new and sounds like Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass is under the hood and I love it

"tuneup" is what the diesel shops around here call a valve adjustment. Smoothness and quietness are two different concepts. I don't expect the diesel to be quiet; I DO expect a straight six to be smooth, unlike the throbbing pulse of a V-8.

I felt it

I felt the pulse/throb @ constant highway speed when I had a '98 12v. . The truck I have now is a v8first one in years, and its smooth to me. Same Toy you have Mr. Simpson. I never noticed it on a 300 six I drove for 12 years. Must be nature of the beast.

That's encouraging, Rich. I was afraid I had burned valves and was running on five and a half!

I agree; that Tundra V-8 is as smooth as any six I ever owned!:D
