As our trailers on the farm seemed to just keep getting bigger my dad and I decided that we needed something bigger than our 2500's. We looked for low mileage used trucks for a while and could never find what we wanted. We stumbled across a small dealership in Oklahoma that had new cab & chassis already equiped with the type of bed we wanted for a price that was very good. So we brought home a reg cab 4x4 drw 6spd manual truck. So far i have been nothing but impressed with the abilities of this truck. Being accustomed to my 5600 the g56 took a little getting used to but now I prefer it over the 5600. I regularly tow a 36ft cattle trailer and my gross weights are in the 38k lb range. It handles it with ease. The exhaust brake is a very nice feature that should have been standard equipment a long time ago. As far as fuel mileage goes I will admit that it is nothing to brag about. The truck weighs about 9k empty and will only get about 14 mpg. towing it is around 10mpg. Have only put about 3000 miles on it so i am sure it will improve some. I doubt there is any new information here but I just wanted to let anybody who might be considering one of these trucks have another opinion to read.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm in the fence on whether to get one of the last 07 5. 9s DRW QC or go ahead an order a new 08 6. 7 C&C.

I would say, right now, if you are dead-set on a manual, get the 07 with a 5. 9. If you really want the 68RFE, there's your answer. I'm running around 21 MPGs mixed driving.

I own 3 of the 3500's... and they all get about the same mileage... . However if my wife drives one she always get 2 - 3 mpg better than I do... its a simple matter of moving mass... she starts slower, drives 5 under the speed limit and has learned to stop by watching traffic and usually won't touch the brakes until shes under 30 mph... . I've never learned those habits and will never get that mileage... . I usually never see over 15 - 16 on the highway empty and 10-12 with 15,000 lbs of trailer back there. .

I do have a new 5500 on order... its in transit and has been for 2 or 3 weeks... . I'm waiting to see how it will do.....
