I have noticed recently that my brakelights spontaneously come on once in a while. the truck is parked and locked, the keys are not being played with(my daughter). Are the brake lights computer controlled like the rest of the lights? I believe that they are. Does the the switch on the pedal switch the power or the ground? I really don't want to take it to the dealer if it is not necessary. thanks in advance for your help!

try this: if as soon as you tap the brake pedal the lights come on, the switch bracket can be bent to fix it. You want it to come on with about 1/8 to 1/4 inch movement of the pedal.

Look under the knee panel. There is a white switch that actuates the brakes.

Turn it 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it. Push the bracket in a little, and re-install switch. Test to see how it responds.

I tried pushing on the pedal to see how far it moved before the lights came on and it seems to be about 1/2" before it actuates and I can hear it click when it does. I have seen it act up 3 time tonight so it is making me nervous.

I can't drive at night because my headlights flash. Even if I just have the switch set on the parking lights, the headlights still flash. Doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes I can go a week or two without it acting up. Never does it at the dealer and it doesn't set any codes. I guess it wouldn't be a Dodge if it didn't have electrical problems.

Mine used to blow the horn spontaneously while driving. It woke me up blowing at 4am one time and then I pulled the fuse. Dealer couldn't fix it. I traded the truck a few months later, to dealer. So if anyone owns the truck with the horn issue... sorry!

That switch can't be expensive, I'd try a new one of those first.

the dealer pulled the whole dash out to fix my a/c earlier this summer so I think they messed something up I/E they either didn't get a plug hooked up completely or pinched a wire somewhere. I don't want them touching it again especially since I just went out of my 3/36 warranty even though I still have the extended warranty.

Does anybody know how the brakelights are wired, I don't have a wiring schematic.

Thanks, I went there And from what I gather the light switch controls the CHMSL directly and the brakelights thru the Fwd control computer, Am I right? if that is the case then it has to be the switch because it turns ALL the brake lights on, right? If it was the computer, wouldn't it just be the brakelights (I hate the way Dodge wrote the diagrams like they did)

It's like 50 bucks or something. I've replaced it once and it was fine for awhile. I may try it again. Maybe Dodge got a bad batch.

UPDATE, I was paying attention to it while driving the other night and the brake controller is coming on also. I really think the switch is messed up. I'll have to go to the dealer and find out how much they want to steal from me for a new switch.
