My truck makes an irritating noise which I finally tracked down to the go pedal. When using cruise control there is no pressure on the pedal and it rattles. I can stick my foot under the pedal and lift up a bit and the noise stops. Has anyone else noticed this on their truck?

holy cripes

It aint even broke in yet man... ... ... ... ... just kiddin, maybe put some graphite on that contact point and give it time baby

congrats on the new ride

I haven't noticed any rattle yet. Only got 700+ on it now. Could it be because I have not used the cruse control:D

What, you mean that rattle?? It's always been there, it's just that your hearing is recovering with the new quiet beast... . you can hear!

Mine did the same thing, adjusted with channel locks and it went away, my '98 too.

I spread the bracket that holds the pedal pivot post so that the peddle had some slight contact pressure to the floor when in cruise and foot off the peddle. The peddle on the 6spd has no tension in cruise control at all.

My peddles are not adjustable, I don't plan on letting short people drive my truck:cool:

Dieselman, my wife wanted me to tell you that short people have larger brains. Now, I am just passing on a message. That said, I could not prove that theory by her. :D

By the way, got the fan nut recall today. Truck is less than three weeks old and already a recall. Amazing.

Short People Got, No Reason, Short People Got No Reason to... .

Whose hit was that anyway??

on that Fan recall, I haven't seen it, and mine feels very tight, could you tell if yours needed it?

The dealer I trust is 165 miles away, don't want to waste a trip, so I checked mine at 160lbs of torque, seems plenty tight to me, what a b@@@@ getting into the fan hub nut with a full size wrench!

Mine seems tight too. I will try a wrench but will probably take it to the dealer eventually anyway. My wife says howdy, tall person. JUST passing on a message.

... and the problem is? Opps, it's an '03 and it's not supposed to rattle. Bummer, oh well... :D

My '98 and my '01 rattled to, plus I had a noise in the dash in the '01. It must be that it is so quiet that I can hear myself think, don't recall doing that before:D

Go Pedal rattle

Did anyone get theirs fixed yet? Mine was annoying me so much I finally took it to the dealer. They are ordering a new pedal, and see where it goes from there.

I believe that was Randy Newman from the '70's.

I was young then.

My '95 did it from day one when the cruise was on. Like you said, when the cruise pulls the cable, the pedal is just lightly resting on the metal end of the throttle cable, and all the little parts buzz while you drive.

I got on my back and put a rubber band over the spring thingy (getting too technical?) at the pedal end of the cable, looping it around the little spring, plastic bushing and the little metal piece that holds it all on there.

I don't know if your 3rd generation throttle pedal arrangment is the same as mine but the above worked for me. I don't like it because it is not a 'true' fix but it did stop the noise. It really is an irritating buzz.

Good luck I hope you get something that works if this doesn't.

UPDATE

Looks like the new pedal had zero effect. On the accelerator cable, there is a 2-3 inch or so unsheathed section between the pedal and the firewall where it seems to be vibrating with no pressure on the pedal, causing the rattle/buzzing sound. As a temp measure, a few fishing sinkers on the cable will reduce the noise to a tolerable level. The diesel tech at Roanoke is talking with DC on this issue. I will post an update when I get more info.

these trucks have a cable linked to the accelarator? that is odd for a newer electronic diesel. is that cable an electrical wiring harness or a metal wire rope cable??

It's the cable between the pedal and the APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor) or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), depending on which Chrysler manual you read, located on the front drivers side of the engine. Yes, the engine is electronically speed controlled once you get to the APPS - that is where the conversion from mechanical to electronic occurs. I believe engine vibration is being transmitted down this cable and causing the noise.

oh. . ok i get it now. . i just assumed it was like the one in my diesel tahoe and the ones in the ford SD's. they have the throttle pedal mounted right to the throttle pot. no cable linkage. just directally attached.

OK, I just got my 2003 HO 6-speed, and the pedal buzz is driving me nuts. Has anyone come up with a good fix for this annoying problem??
