I have a 2001 2500 HO 6 speed with 123,000 miles. At 60,000 my lift pump was replaced (under warranty!). My problem is that intermittently (5% maybe) the turbo will not kick in at lower rpms (under 2000). If I downshift to raise the rpms the turbo will kick in. Do I suspect another lift pump is needed?

I haven't yet had anybody hook up and read codes and I assume that should be my first step, unless anyone has other suggestions. Thanks

Do you have a boost gage? Under 2000rpm you may not see much boost unless you are accelerating. Cruising down the freeway at 70 I see between 5-8 lbs of boost on level ground at 1800 rpm in OD. At heavy acceleration empty I can achieve between 17-18. Pulling a load I see boost regularly @ all RPMs'.

Hope this helps.

I am completely stock, with no extra gauges. I am really happy with engine performance overall, as I routinely hit 22 mpg at 70 mph, 23. 5 at 62 mph. I pull a heavy fifth wheel occasionally with no power problems, other than the lagging turbo boost.

Gages!

I would suggest buying gages when you come up with some extra coin. With the gages you'll know what your Cummins is doin! Here's where I got mine... ...

I got the white faced Dipricol, Boost, EGT, & Trans temp. Bought the Westach 0-16 FP gage from Geno's. For $330 you get the painted triple A-Pillar, Gages & sending units, The only thing I had to really buy was more wire, & a $100 trans line with the outlet to put the trans sending unit in for best possible spot to check trans tempature.

Good Luck.
