Yup, just got back from the dealership and they confirm that I'm losing oil, kind of like those signs on the NJ Turnpike telling you it's snowing. I thought it was pretty obvious. I was watching it rain on the oil slick I left in the parking lot when they came out to tell me.

Anyway, they traced it back to the seal around the vacuum/power steering shaft. They will be replacing the whole pump under warranty, a $7-800 value in DC dollars. Does anyone know if this is common? I know Batman had a leak, and Jim sheared the pump shaft... who else has had this?

Matt

Geez, I hope I don't have to deal with that :{

Good luck on the new pump, At least DC is replacing it under Warranty.

I thought you had the new James Bond option. Push a Button for "Oil Slick" and watch all the cars trying to keep up with you spin out. :-laf

They'll be screwing it up on April Tools Day, an all day job it seems.

And hey, most of you have the fog bank feature, I opted for the oil slick... :-laf

Damn I thought the Fog was the only option available... . Is the Oil Slick an Over-valved Option?

Me Too

Mine seeps a little, I am keeping an eye on it. I have a line on a dealer that might be able to fix it without screwing up anything else. Not sure what I am going to do about it at this time.

If it is just the shaft seal that is leaking you can have that replaced at a Cummins shop for around $150. 00.

vac/ps pump

Matt, this has been around for a while. My '91 Ram leaked at around 20,000 miles, was replaced and was just starting to seep oil when I sold it around 75,000 miles.

Dave D & Ram4Sam,

Where was your leak guys? Same place or different? I probably read about this a year ago while I was waiting for my truck to arrive--I think I read every thread back then--but lately all I've heard about is oil pans, valve covers, and rear seals.

leaky shaft

Matt, if I remember right, both times it leaked at the same spot. It was where the common shaft of these two pumps exited the vac pump. It was an oil leak, not power steering fluid. Both times it was more of a seepage, it never leaked enough to drip on the ground.

Sam

'92 leaks.

My '92 leaks at the power steering pump, and the rear-mail seaps. Both have since early in the trucks life (40,000 miles or so). The rear-mail was replaced under warranty, but it began seaping for the second time while still under warranty. The truck does not leak enough to matter, so my thought is drive on :D :D currently has 242,000+ miles on it. :D :D

So far, the '99 is not leaking with 103,500 miles on it. Oo. Oo. I hope it stays that way!:D :D
