Mystery switch on 1995

Did you go to www.tstproducts.com web site? That's were I got my information from, it is under more info at installation instructions. Shows you which wire you need to splice into. I went with the 3 way switch so you can have normal, force lock up and force unlock.

Unfortunately the great instructions for all kinds of things disappeared on TST's site when they remodeled it. All the old links just go to their homepage.

On a '95 install a wire from the pin 54 orange wire with black stripe to a switch or relay so that a ground source can be turned on and off. Do not cut the wire, just tee into it. The pin 54 orange wire with black stripe is located in the PCM connector located on the firewall behind the air cleaner. If you want to force no lock up cut the wire and use the switch to toggle it.

Highly recommend you also install a led pilot light to remind you when the lock-up is engaged. Forgetting to unlock the transmission in certain situations can cause severe damage.

To run a pilot light you can't use the same set of contacts on the switch, you must use a double pole switch and make separate circuits for the lighting and lock-up. Most lighted handle switches won't work either.

What could happen if the TC is locked and you are doing some driving nloaded and you slow down to a stop. Will it just stall the motor or mess something up?

DONT DO IT it is almost the same feeling you get if you try to bring a standard to a stop without pushing the the clutch in, and on an auto im sure it is much much worse

You can get a little more creative if you use a single pole, double throw, center off switch.

This will allow you three ways to use it. TC normal, TC locked or TC unlocked.

Since it is not good to have it locked up when stopping the vehicle, I also added red and green LED's to show what position the switch is in. To do that, I use a three pole, double throw, center off switch and a relay.

I don't smoke so I used the ash tray to mount the thing in.

hey guys, haven't been on in awhile, I'm assuming your all doing this as a way to help stop the truck. Just my 2 cents, my wife drives a power stroked van with a/t. So I put one of those electric exhaust brakes in it, the one that work off the warm up valve. It opens and closes to help warm up faster, some genius figured out way to use as exhaust brake. I put in in less than an hour, the only mistake I made was buying the torgue lock switch for the extra $20. Believe me the exhaust brake is enough, there is way to many possibilities of severe damage with using the lock up switch. I used mine 2 or 3 times and disconnected it. I saw in a few threads guys asking about coming to dead stop with it on, and the answer being like manual with out steeping on clutch(somewhat of the same feeling) but more severe to trans. If you do decide to go with setup, DO NOT start up truck with switch on and make sure you turn it off between 20 and 30mph, and shouldn't even turn it on until 55mph. I think to much work and way to dangerous if have other people getting in and out of your truck. If someone plays with switch or someone forgets to make sure off before starting could cause major problems. Best of luck in your decision.

Yes I agree the switch is a risk some people say its ok some people say its not. I use it more because of my faulty TPS that shifts the TC on and off (very annoying) just remember your making the transmission do something it was not designed to do

True, this is how I killed my TC. I had 24k of Rail Road ties in tow and I used it froma dead stop... . instantly fried the Torque Converter - BIG TIME.

I still use the mystery switch, and like it, but only when I'm up to speed when towing and when my stinkin' TPS acts up. ... and yes, I've re-wired the source leads, cleaned it out, and it still acts up. I guess these things do eventually die no matter what we do to try and save them. - just like my best pal dog :(

The TCC may not be locked on a 47RH regardless of the electrical condition. The switch valve is differernt in the VB than on a 47RE. The lock up solenoid may activate, but that does not mean that the hydraulic pressure is applied to the TCC. The situation occurs when you try to lock it when the throttle is at idle. It's important if you are towing and going down hill and try to lock the TCC. It requires a short excelleration to do so. To avoid this the TCC must be locked before starting down the hill.

What would be the lowest speed that you could turn the switch on? After you get into second gear and the engine is a higher rpm, or is it a certain speed you have to be at?

I would not do the 2-3 shift locked without billet shafts but thats just me. Some people never have a problem though. I think you can use lockup in 2nd gear with the factory valve body.
