I am thinking about getting a set of N-Fab nerf bars for my truck.

I was just wanting to know your opinion of those who have these.

How do they mount up? Do they move alot when you step up on them?

I put the N-Fab 6 step bars on my truck about 5 months ago. I like them alot wouldn't buy any other steps. The only thing I would change is how they mount. The steps mount to the little lip at the bottom of the body. I would rather them mount to the frame however they are holding up. I use them everytime I'm in and out of the truck. Having the step for the bed is convenient too.

I agree with JBrincks, had mine on since August, really like them, be careful of the bolts, I broke 3 putting them on, but since the are just generic carriage bolts, no big deal.

Ive had mine on for 25 months, love'em, like jbrinks said my only concern was mounting to the lip but it actually works. when i buy a 6. 7 i will put n-fabs on.

I've got a set but have not yet put them on. Like others have commented I'm not entirely thrilled with the mounting arrangement and how it might, or might not, hold up hitting it hard off-road.

The problem with mounting them to the frame is where/how to mount them. I am currently working on a set of completely self fabricated steps for my '03, and I made up a clamp mount for the front, but this wouldn't work in the back on the D. S. because of the fuel tank in the way. I ended up using a drop-down mount from the rear body mount on the back. This is to flimsy IMO, since I am 275 lbs. Tomorrow is home project day @ work, so I will have the whole shop for 12 hours to try to straighten them out. I'll try to get some pictures.

I have them on my '06, and I find the method of mounting very solid - much better than I expected, and much sturdier than most frame mounted bars I've tried or used.

However, I don't care for the step shape and height, compared to normal step bars. As a result, I never seem to use them. I've also noticed that women in heels don't know how to use them (this wasn't a problem with the Stulls I had on a previous truck).

I thank all of you for the replies. I still can't decide if I want to get them or not. They cost a little more than I would like to spend also. I really like the way they look.

steps

I liked the way they looked also. I made a set for my truck out of 4" sch 40 pipe and i used sch 40 1" 1/4 for the steps. I attached to the lip at the bottom of the body but ran some channel to the frame for support. They are very strong. I haven't finished with the steps but hope to after the 1st of the yr.

Are the fab bars the 4in and 1 1/4" like you used or are they smaller. I have a bunch of sch 40 3" ans 1" pipe and was planning on just using that, but I was wondering if it would look to small.

Smittybilt also used to offer something very similar to the N-fab bars. Might be cheaper if you can find them (I think they looked cooler too).

Does anyone know if n-fab is the only company that offers a step w/ bed access? i wouldn't mind a separate hoop just for the bed access either.

I saw them first in the Dallas 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, then bought them cheaper at DFW Camper Corral. Looks like 4WPW has free shipping on them right now. I love mine and have been on since new, almost 80K now. Maybe this link to 4WPW will work,

I have a set from 4wheelparts and they are the same exact steps as the N-fab. they are even made by N-fab, the only thing missing is the logo. I went to the retail store armed with the 4wheelparts.com price from the website. with a little negotiating, I bought them at the website price and when they tried to charge me $80 for shipping to the store. . I showed them that the website offers this product with free shipping. (even if the website did. . I found a loop hole:) I didn't make any friends with my purchace but thats not why I went to the store, I went there to get the best price on some steps... BH

Oh ya. . here are some pictures...

I have a set from them as well. Just make sure you tell them to pack them well... . Mine came all mangled and there was a scratch on one of them. I called the company and asked them to please send some touch up paint which they agreed to do. The paint never came. But hey, they look great on my truck.

I like them, but I don't want the steps, I want them more for the look and protection. I went to their web site, but it isn't very helpful. Does anyone know where I can find more info on what are called Harley bars on the web site, they are the same things just without the steps. TIA

It sorta surprised me that they were selling them under the N-fab name again. They were the 4WPW "Genuine" brand for quite a while.

Just the other day, I came out of Home Depot and there was a guy crawling around under my truck. He must of seen the "what the @#$@ are you doing to my truck" look. He popped up and asked if it was my truck, complemented me on the steps and asked where I got them. I don't know why he needed them, because when he got into his Cheby truck, there wasn't any stepping up involved. :-laf

hemi5oh: Actually, they're referred to most commonly as "accent bars". (I'm a LINE-X dealer in Fort Worth and we sell truck accessories. )
