R134A 30lb Cylinder Pricing

OK! What is this?

OK Guys this is just for fun, right?

By definition, I think this qualifies as a tool, but I'm pretty sure you will not go out and buy this one, it was homemade to solve a temporary "problem" with my 1977 Dodge P/U.

Now for the clues and clarifications:

Size, cylindrical about 2 1/2" long, by about 1 3/16" in diameter, the diameter is pretty important.

Material, this one is Hickory, not critical to functionality.

Very important, the notch about 5/16" wide and about 3/8" deep that the old Dodge P/U key is pointing to, without the notch, it's just a piece of Hickory.

When it worked the better half was a bit relieved as she kinda started this project.

The solution to no longer needing this "tool" required a trip to a specialist for his skills, but I even managed to make the solution harder that it had to be.

When it was finished the old Dodge P/U was just fine.

BIGNASTY,

The judges have signaled NEGATORY, the tool was required, it was not an aid.

The wife thing is an important clue.

Im gonna say it is something to open the door from the outside due to a broke door release. Maybe it fits in the door where the door lock tumbler was. Or, same thing, only glove box door release. Women gotta have both:p

Temporary tumbler replacement in the column. Enables one to start the vehicle if the tumbler goes bad and anew one is not readily available.

Ladies, Gentlemen and BIGNASTY,

Hoefler nailed it!

The better 1/2 had my one and ONLY key to my 1997 Dodge M880 (For Sale) P/U in her jeans pocket, No. 1 Son wanted to use truck, drat! pocket had hole in it, key lost in a 150 yd tract in yard between our house and neighbor, gone. Me slightly P/O'd at better 1/2 and me for ever taking only key off of my ring.

No code, no spare now what?

Inspect spare steering column to learn inner workings, good start.

Remove steering wheel and turn signal switch, depress one detent lock pin and presto old cylinder comes out, still no key. Ign switch is on opposite side of column, swich rotates for functions, no biggie.

IDEA!!!! Make TEMPORARY T O O L to rotate switch! Put column back together. It works, everyone thinks me McGiver again. Driving truck with Hickory Switch, couldn't resist it, sorry.

Take cylinder to LOCKSMITH, can do, ready tomorrow. New key needed to be jiggled just so, didn't work for beans in door lock. Hey, take very very low useage door cylinder back to locksmith, try again, 2nd set works perfect, he missed one pin by one value.

Moral of story:

Make 2nd key.

Don't loan only key to Son or better 1/2, no way, no how.

Technical moral of story for my truck, it was a heck of a lot easier to R&R door cylinder than column lock cylinder for cutting new key.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys, the truck started off locked, had to buy slim jim and break into my own truck to open door.

Picture shows spare later model ign switch with Hickory Switch actuator and in the background is a spare cylinder. You can see the notch at the 12 O'clock position of the rotating plate. Hickory is now official key fob, hence the ring at the other end.

Thanks, and sorry BIGNASTY, can't win em all!

WAIT A MIN. THAT WAS MY NEXT GUESS

A piece of pipe on a breaker bar loosening a lug nut, thats an aid.

A step stool for a city slicker to get on a horse, thats an aid.

Having your cooler at your elbow by your camp chair, thats an aid.

Individually wrapped american cheese slices, thats an aid.

It was fun to show off to my neighbor how to start the old truck with a piece of wood, and fun to share with TDR, obviuosly I'm not the 1st to have had the problem.

BIGNASTY, tell you what, print this off show it to you best mule, ask em for a decision if you got it right, I'll abide by their written posted ruling.
