What are these axles rated at?

V 10 ford Vs my ETH Cummins Tow story

We've narrowed our search for a new fiver down to basically two now, The Sunnybrook 2850SL and the Arctic Fox 28 5-D. We have never seen either one in person, which makes it difficult. There are things we like equally well on both of them and things we dislike on both of them. It is my understanding that both are rated 4 of 5 stars on the scale. We have had a few nibbles on our Fleetwood and have a few coming to look at it this weekend. We are hoping we can find one of each on lots somewhere and have someone videotape for us to help us make a choice. Pricewise the Sunnybrook is less expensive. Any strong opinions here??

I just walked thru a 2850SL and talked to the factory rep at the show last night. My wife and I thought it would be great for kids - two bunks in the rear and lots of room everywhere else. According to the rep, the SL is the same frame, floor and box construction as the Originol but they cut out some cosmetic things. Lesser grade appliances, cabinet doors, no fiberglass endcaps, skirting etc but still real good quality everywhere. It's a REALLY nice RV! I think the show price was $24k on that one. Craig

I don't know anything about Sunnybrook but my Nash has been great (in the 2000 model year, the Nash with all options was the same as the Arctic Fox -- I think now there are some things that you can't get on the Nash that come on the Fox). It's only been back to the dealer for normal wheel bearing repack and for a recall by the refrigerator manufacturer. Don't have a single complaint about it.

If you select a interior or exterior wall ( from inside ) that is over 24" long, put your first 2 fingers in the middle and lean into the wall. do this through out the trailer you will find out that the Sunnybrook leave out a lot of wall studs. I have found this true through out the Keystone and Fleetwoods.

That is why I have been looking at the Titanium's, You can't beat a composite wall and roof for strength , light weight, and r value

If you add all the options to the Nash that are standard on the Artic Fox the Nash cost more plus The A F has more that are not available on the Nash. The Nash is the "economy" line that can be light to heavily optioned depending on budget. Still has the same high quality frame and structure as the A F just not all the options.

The Artic Fox 5th has over 30,000 mi and has never had any warranty work, with 3 months left on the 2 year warranty.

I don't think you would go wrong with either one... but my recommendation would be the Sunnybrook... I own one, like it and would buy another one. I've yet to run into an unhappy Sunnybrook owner.

Found Another

We've now added Trail-Bay to the equation. I'm sure they don't quite rack up to the ratings that the Sunnybrook or Fox get, but they seemed to be fairly well built for the $$$, and offer the options we have been looking to get. We are still trying to get a real price on an Arctic Fox 28-5D, but only have one dealer to work with who does not stock this model. It is hard to consider the purchase of the Sunnybrook when we've not seen one, and we are not pleased with the lack of available options.

dekvdog:

We didn't buy any of the above but look at insulation and the seal around and of the slides. Also what is the "type" of the slide mechanism?

Just something else to look at.

. . Preston. .

I have a AF 24-5n,a1999 model. Bought it in June 99 and have made three 5k mile trips that were about 2 months each. I have not had one problem or defect noted. I have been in very cold and hot weather, rain and shine. For the price you can't beat a A/FOX.

I am not a AF salesman and have never contacted the factory. .

Preston, I'm not sure about the Arctic Fox, but Trail Bay and Sunnybrook are both using rack and pinion slides. It is my understanding that these are the most reliable and strongest. The seals around both units appear to be pretty good, with the Sunnybrook (IMO) being the better seal of the two.

Kev

Either one. Theyre both good (Arctic Fox & Sunnybrook).

We ended up getting a good deal on the Sunnybrook, and its been very good. The deal may be the best reason to choose between the two.

The sunnybrook uses good quality components, & no particle board. Have read that the Nash uses the good stuff too.

Hard to go wrong w/ either. Especially compared to some of the BIG NAME JUNK out there! Be very careful if you look at other brands.

You could also look at the Cedar Creek. A little birdie says they are almost identical copies of the Sunnybrook.
