Truck Stops

My Favorite Poem !!

Thinking of traveling to North Carolina in the first part of may. Does any one know of any nascar shops that let you tour, and where are they? While im on the subject, where is the best place to camp and visit in north carolina? Thanks in advance. :)

Shops

If you get in the High Point area they have a real nice city run RV park there and Levelcross is only about 15 miles East where the Richard Petty musieum is located. I'm sure that you will find lots of NASCAR related things in that part of the country. bg

MOORESVILLE! That's where you want to be. There's an industrial park just off I-77 (I think- which ever N-S interstate runs through Charlotte) and most shops were in there. Look for the exit where the Crackerbarrel is. I was looking to breeze through and visit Lowes speedway, and while I was loking for a motel to stay at, I found this industrial park by accident. I couldn't believe it. As I was heading north after Charlotte, I headed to Petty's place. Very nice!

That area is truly NASCAR heaven! I would like to do it again someday.

My wife and I went to the fall Charlotte race in '97 and spent

about five days total in the area for qualifying and such. Somehow we got ahold of a map of where all the shops are located and visited several. At Robert Yates shop you could go

into the lobby and look through the window to the back where

the cars were (at the time this shop was pretty much in Charlotte). North of Charlotte was an industrial complex (might be the same Wayne mentioned) where we found Felix Sebates,

Kranefus/Haas #37 (Jeremy Mayfield) shop, and Penske had a

shop there. These shops didn't give tours but you could look through the glass to the cars. Then we found the MB2 shop which was off the beaten path in a little industrial park. It wasnt a high

dollar operation like some of the bigger ones, as at the time Derrick Cope was driving the car but it had been announced that

Ernie Irvan was taking over the following year. The receptionist took us on a tour through the back where they build the cars and spent about 45min showing us around, and even gave us a handfull of skittles bags before we left. If you can find a smaller operation you might have better luck getting a tour. I think my wife found the shop maps on the internet.

http://jayski.thatsracin.com/pages/address.htm has a list of all the shop addresses

Wayne M is right in that Mooresville's pretty much the place to be - but be aware that degrees of access vary from shop to shop. The best shop I've been in is Bill Davis Racing in High Point (Ward Burton's shop). Super friendly, walked around for a couple hours unattended talking with the guys. Others are very different some with only a "lounge" where you can see into the shop. The bigger the team and the more success they've had sort of limits the access you get at the shop. Remember everybody who's driving down I-77 sees the shops in Mooresville and many stop by. Might want to take B. G. Smith's advice and check out high point for the petty museum (they'll charge you three bucks I think to get in). You cant go into the petty shop tho. Then head over to bill davis racing for great access (Hopefully the win at Daytona hasn't changed anything). Best bet is to call ahead and see what kind of access they have.

MOORESVILLE

Went home from Talladega that way last year stopped in Mooresville at DEI. . aka The Garage Mahal, and then to RCR... we toured the museum there and then it was after hours for the shop tour, went out back to see the haulers leaving for California and happened to run into Richard Childress, couldn't talk him into a personalized tour, but did get his autograph on my leather Earnhardt hat and a picture with him:cool:
