I had to haul a truck to Denver today from well south of Grand Junction. I scaled at 15,600 no big deal. Not until I realized the exhuast brake had quit working:mad: OK, still gotta go, no big deal. I get 300+ miles into the trip, I am pulling a steep grade just a few miles out of Denver, 30 psi, 1300 EGT, hard but not THAT bad, all the sudden no power, exhaust get louder?, boost down EGTs going up. Pull over, idles OK, not much power though. Its mostly downhill, I go for it.

Get it to the dealer in Golden, yep he has the most and the best techs in town... . maybe Friday, for sure by Monday. I try to explain that I made a day trip from 350 miles away and I can't hang out, nor do I want to, in Denver. No help. So a little frustrated, I honk on her pretty good out of that paking lot. Damned if it doesn't clear right up. I drive it around the city a little after dealing with the truck delivery and rental trailer. No problems, makes it home 350 more miles, no problem.

It set the following codes

P0204- #4 injector

P0234- overboost

P2149- injector harness #4-6

It was running pretty rough, pretty loud, high egts, could all that drama be from one injector? Is it the Quadzilla box? Didn't seem to matter the setting, and it was on the lowest one when the problem occurred. Checked oil, good level, no fuel smell.

So check wiring for #4 obviously. I need the e-brake fixed and was going to hit the dealer up for a new DM flywheel since I have some extended coverage left.

What do you guys think?

Did you notice any excessive smoke (and it might NOT have been all that excessive)...

If you see my post about a lost injector, that's exactly what mine acted like... except mine come on, went away, came back, went away, then came back for good (in a matter of 2 minutes)... you might just be on its last leg. As it started, there as no excessive smoke... by the time it failed completely, it was smoking excessively.

I wasn't pulling hard, so the EGTs stayed normal, but there was a definite loss of power... amazing losing a single cylinder out of 6 will cause it to go from a 325HP turbo diesel to a 100HP 4-popper.

I would plan to replace an injector... hopefully you don't, but plan for it...

steved

Ohh, and I only drove it for about 3 miles, but the oil was also fine... I think this injector was going bad electronically for a while...
