Since you are going to be covering it with the bushwackers, I would recomend to tape off the area and mask it, then sand it down and use a primer then a paint that is close to the color. In Rusoleum if you can...

I have the mopar fender flairs, They have a little bit of an opening to allow water to run out. Sucks to see that much rust on a newer truck... .

Yea, when I was washing my truck this weekend, I noticed some rust at the drivers door - ends up the whole inner lip of the door skin has rusted off - and now it is showing up on the outside - yea rah.

I know how you feel! My truck had running boards on it when I bought it, guess what they were hiding! Both front fenders had rust at the bottom, when I poked at it I had religious fenders! (holy... holey, whatever) Underneath the cab doesn't look that great either. I thought these vehicles were galvanized. Fender flares'll work wonders for you're truck, sand to bare metal and seal things up well with rust converter, rustoleum, whatever and I swear by shooting, oil, WD40, Gibbs, deisel fuel, or Amsoil HD metal protector in the seams. That means in the rockers, inside the doors, over rear wheel openings, and all the seams underneath. It works!! Do it several times/year and it'll stop rust in its tracks.

Yeah basically the rust seemed to go all the way along the fender, I figured out someone had done a half a$$ job fixing it once before, lots of bondo was falling off as I sanded.

Now let's not forget, where I live can't be helping the situation, I live 5 blocks from the beach, I hear waves crashing all night and with that comes salt water mist, so I have to be extra vigilante.

yep rust sucks! both my front doors are rusting took truck to dealer. dealer inspected looked up at me and said yep doors are rusting made a phone call and two new doors are on their way no charge to me. No hassle at all good dealer. must be the salt in the rust belt of northern il/so wis. or could it be the crappy metal and paint job dodge did?

I've always thought Dodge had bad paint jobs. All my families Dodge cars have that white cracked look on the hoods and roofs, and now my truck is starting to do the same!

THANKS... Next thing your going to be telling me is that your on the North Shore and can see China Man's Hat from your windows while your eating some shaved ice... . :D

MY truck is going into the shop next week to get the 2000 box (Thanks DDT!) painted to match, new doors (they were fixed 5 years ago) and at least 1 new fender. THEN it's going to get rustproofed!

Finished product, Bushwacker Extend A Fenders. Soory pics kinda dark, hopefully I'll get better pictures in my RR section soon.

I feel bad for all you guys. Rust on a new car is bad, i mean all the technology. Glad my rust free 96 came from oregon... hehe

I kinda wish the 2 previous owners took better care of this truck, I feel like I had to undo their neglect, and the paint was obviously neglected. But I still think it's a great truck!

:D Yah they came from a good home! They're actually altered now and tomorrow they will go into retirement for a while since my new cipa mirrors are scheduled to arrive. But I will keep them on alert for emergencies or when I get CTD #2... .
