I would like to get the navigation radio for my 2004. 5 Dodge Ram I don't know which one I need RB1 or RB4 can anyone help me and wondering if my XM transponder will work the nav radio

I was considering this and I decided that if I do it, I will get an after market unit. Pioneer makes a good unit that does about everything you need for $800-$1200 on the internet. Go to "Pioneer" on the net for details. Here is what the control head looks like:

Darn if I can remember which one came stock in mine, but I think it's the RB4. If you stay with a stock unit, you'll want the RB1 if mine came with the RB4 or vice versa. Does that even make sense?

I recently got the RB4 for my '05,paid $300 for it on ebay. It doesn't show a map with roads, instead,it has arrows that tell you wether to turn left, right or go straight as well as voice prompts and also shows what street your on as well as the street you are going to turn onto in print. I don't know if the RB1 unit shows an actual map or not,but those were selling for around $500 for brand new units last November. Mike

I wouldn't have one that didn't have a map display. Like to see what my options are when I'm driving, just in case I decide to take a quick change.

I've been shopping for a NAV unit for my '06. Bought a REC from ebay, but it was DOA. Still waiting for a refund from seller, but that's another saga... I went shopping and looked at Pioneer AVIC D3 which is double din. Not sure if it will fit '04. 5 or not. Going aftermarket can be a compromise... I was told by Crutchfield that I would lose my factory Sirius tuner (and 1yr free service) and I'd have to buy a Pioneer tuner and buy a subscription. You will lose your steering wheel audio controls (if '04. 5's have them). An aftermarket module is available that accepts steering wheel controls and converts them into something compatable with Pioneer, but, from what I saw, you have to do a bunch of splicing which I'm not ready to do on my brandy new '06. So, even though Pioneer has Blue tooth, touch screen, larger display, and can play DVD movies, it's $1K w/o extra modules etc, and I don't want to lose my steering wheel controls (or hack into my wire harness), I don't want to lose my Sirus subscription or have to buy another tuner, and I don't want to make my truck more of a break-in target, so I think I'll stick with factory REC NAV.

Hope this helps...

The one I have does not show the maps, but it does recalculate the directions if you deviate from the directions it has already given you. I would like to have the RB1 that shows the maps though.

Not entirely true - Sirius will let you transfer your subscription to another receiver.

ronman,

Get the latest REC NAV unit with the rear video input when you get around to purchasing a replacement. I picked one up last week and put a camera on the license frame... ... it comes on automatically when you put it in reverse and gives a really nice view when backing to hook up a trailer, etc.

mr. cd1 on ebay is a really good seller and he's got fair prices as well.

Good luck!

I would LOVE to have one a nav unit in my 04. 5 as well but it all comes down to this for me: All the NAV units that I could find that work with my truck require you to be stopped to input information.

Don't get me wrong, I am usually Mr. Safety but this is STUPID. What if I have a passenger in my truck (VERY LIKELY) that will be operating the unit????

My mom has an Acura MDX with Nav and it lets you do whatever you want while driving. Too bad it won't work in my truck!! :-laf

If anybody knows of a NAV unit that doesn't require me to be pulled over with a note from my mommy to operate, I am interested.

Depending on type of unit you want aftermarket/stock this feature can usually be bypassed. I did this on my pioneer nav unit that I installed in my truck.

Thanks, I seem to recall reading some-where that this was possible but I haven't investigated it much.

Is it dash mounted or other? I don't like the ones that sit on top of the dash.

I went with the rb1 I got it directly from my dealer for 900. 00 complete, he took my rbq on trade and gave me 275 for it. I went with that 1 because I like the stock dash look

RB4 problems

Just wondering if anyone has ever come across any problems with their RB4?

I have my truck in the dealer right now trying to figure why the navagation is not working. They have tried a new radio, a new antenna, but nothing seems to work.

If you go in to the configure screen, it shows the sensors and when I am driving forward it says backwards on the screen and vice versa. So I'm not sure whats up but would like to find a cure soon.

Thanks

I just installed a Kenwood DDX-7019 with the Kenwood/Garmin add on Navigation into my '07. It has a nice 7" screen that fits in the nav radio dash bezel. From what I have seen, the Garmin is far superior to the Factory Nav Radio.

Very good unit. Highly recommended.

Just my 2 cents...
