I own a 2006 Diesel Dodge Ram 3500 with the factory installed navigational system. At times when the system is activated/in use, I notice the screen map shows me driving on grass (for lack of a better word), rather than the road that was built maybe 2 years ago.

I figured I call my local parts department - Dodge Dealer and ask how I purchase an updated NAV CD Disc to display new roads and the like. They do not know :-{} . As a matter of fact, they tell me the Disc is the same number (for reordering) as it has been for the past several years.

I'm looking at my original NAV CD Disc hard case, an no where does it say a "year".

How do I get an updated NAV Disc or am I missing something in the understanding of this system?

Most likely the number stays the same, but the software "might be" updated from time to time.

What you are describing though is why I personally will not buy a nav system provided by a vehicle manufacturer. They don't care if the software gets updated on a timely schedule.

The major gps manufacturers, like Garmin, Magellan, etc... do update their software on an annual basis as new maps are provided by the national mapping database folks.

Also, with the portable gps units, you just get on the web, log into Garmin (or other) and download the latest files. Garmin gives you the 1st update free, after that they charge a fee.

You did not say if the road you were driving on actually displays on your nav system. Is the road nonexistant, or is the gps just off to the side of the road?

The road I am actually driving on at the time exists. However, the display/NAV map shows green where a field once existed. What I'm saying is that the road I'm currently driving on was built a few years ago (as an example).

I never knew about the "update" capabilities" of a factory installed NAV system. I remember a salesman telling me before I purchased the unit that updates can be had... ... ..... yeah right.

Yep, true blue salesman. What ever it takes to get the commission. he won't be there by the time you figure out he lied.

I would talk to your parts jockey and see if he would allow you to "borrow" a new CD just long enough to see if the road is on the new version. If so, you owe him the bucks. If not, he restocks it.

In speaking with the parts department employee today, he tells me he has not been successful in obtaining an answer from Chrysler on my question in this thread. That was a week ago... ... ... ... . but said he would continue calling. I told him I'll check with my home office... ... Turbo Diesel Register.

I'll take your advise but he described the same color navigational CD hard case as the one I have and said the part number had not changed. I'll see if they will allow me to install and if it is a more updated version.

Unfortunately or fortunately, I did NOT purchase my truck from the salesman who told me the CD can be updated.

There are a number of nav discs on ebay. The particular versions are indicated by letters, like AB, AC,AD..... I think the latest revision is AE. Try an ebay search for "chrysler NAV*. The same disks are used for the RB1 and REC units. Yours should be an REC.

The latest disk for the RB1 navigation is P/N 05064033AE which came out on September 15, 2006.

You will always find missing roads, wrong addresses, etc. in the databases. Since roads are constantly being built and updated, the database is never up to date.

I think it's pretty neat (wouldn't be away from home). They built a new highway in front of our house so when we get on it the GPS shows where the old road left off and where the old road started back up. In the middle it's over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we go.

I have been in contact with Marc Edwards. I found him over on the Chrysler 300C forums. He takes the stock nav disc and removes the coding for the 10mph safety feature. You can use all the features of the nav system at all speeds. Great for when you have a navigator that can work the nav system for you. He can supply you with a modified nav disc for your unit for a donation (email him for details).

What he told me is that the next disc should be out in early 2008. As others have said, AE is the most current version. I'm waiting for the new version, then I'll buy one from Marc.
