This tool allows you to compare the aggregate parts pricing for two different vehicles. Using this, I found out that my '94 Dodge/Cummins 2500 is pretty cheap to fix compared to the sleek and sexy '03 Dodge/Cummins 2500.

This is sort of a no-brainer when you think of the two vehicles and how much more complex the newer ones are... but it's still great food for thought.

wish they had something like this for semi's but people would still want to believe Caterpillar is more expensive to fix than Cummins. Facts still never matter when opinions are involved. :-laf

Cats are going to get a lot more expensive in the coming years. They're not making any on-road engines that meet 2010 emissions and just joined forces with Navistar.

Good luck with that Cat. :-laf

A lot can change in 2 years. Just overhauled a boat anchor N14 last year with a whopping 450k miles on it thanks to a fuel injector. I'd like to thank Cummins for switching piston designs so I couldn't buy a kit without replacing the heads also. Was quite a bargain to say the least. If Cat bails out of the "on highway" market, which wouldn't surprise me since it's only about 8% of all then engines they produce. I'll probably try the new Paccar engines. Also Cat and Navistar have been together for years so this isn't really anything new.
