I have a 2004 Ram, 6 speed 4x4. While driving it stopped running and I had it towed back to my Dodge dealer. The first problem was the lift pump failed. They said Chrysler only offered the in tank pump conversion, at a cost of $365 and four hours at $80 per hour. My dealer offered to install the original pump if I could get one and would only be one hour labor to install. With cash being a little tight I went this route, after installed they said the truck ran but was not regulating the fuel pressure. They believed when the pump shorted out it took part of the computer with it. New from Dodge, $2020!! My local salvage yard said there were a number of part numbers for that year, they talked to my dealer who said all part numbers were reverted to one new number, the $2020 one. My Dodge and Cummins dealers both said they thought any of the old numbers should interchange. We ordered a used one that was one number off from mine for $450. The truck ran good with it but the check engine light was on. My dealer said the codes were for and auto transmission, I have a 6 speed. We are now looking for another one. Is there an economical solution? Interchange list, rebuilder, aftermarket? I'm a new member here, sorry for the log thread, just want to get all the info to you I can. Thanks for any help.
