Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Need ~800lb tourque....what bombs?

Going to help a friend who's purchased a '96 12v 5spd. It's as factory as factory gets. . only thing done is straight piped.



The truck is used as an everyday driver but also is required to tow loads of ~17000 lbs.



As mentioned it's a '96 5spd 12v. He figures 800ft/lbs tourque should do it. What's it going to take? I'm thinking it would need a fuel plate, he's got a K/N filter and injectors and maybe a piers 3k gov kit too. With these bombs can he reach that much tourque? I'm also thinking that a set of guages would be in order as well.



I need to know details like specifically what fuel plate and injectors would he need. Also if you could ball park the horsepower from the required combination.

Gauges first. Then maybe a #12 or #11 plate. The #10 might be too hot for towing if he's still running the factory size exhaust.



I would venture to say he'll need a bigger turbo and exhaust to get in the 800 torque range and still be able to tow 17000#. HX-40, 4" exhaust. Then he should be able to run the 10 plate and possibly 370 injectors and a GSK. That should put him in the 800 torque range, no problem.



With my 97, I was able to run 405 on the dyno with just the #10 plate, 370 injectors, and a GSK. NO exhaust upgrades, but this truck only three times in 3 years.

#10 and 16 cm2 exhaust housing. Pyrometer mandatory. For heavy towing, may need 4" and HX40. I dyno'ed my prototype #10 at 860 ft lb.

See my sig below for my mods... . my truck made 351hp and 885 ft/lbs to the ground. I have towed a 16,000# front end loader with NO effort at all..... make sure your friend has a good exhaust brake as well

I'm not sure if he's set on getting a new turbo or housing. . maybe he'll have to settle for a little less.

I looked at your sig and did not see any injectors listed there. Are you making that power on stock manual injectors?



So far the list would look like this



-Piers 3k

-Not sure about fuel plate due to heat for towing

-guages pyro,transmission,boost

-injectors maybe doesn't need them?

See my sig, that is about 850 tq. There is no way he can tow that much with that kind of torque without spending a chunk of money on a hi performance clutch. Without gauges he will get to rebuild the engine soon also.
