After being retired for 7 years and not having to go to work at o dark thirty on bad early morning roads with the rest of the herd and maybe driving only 4 -5 k a year now to run errands or a doctor appointment I have decide maybe it's time to not have winter tires(Bizzacs) and summer tires (Michelin) LTX M/S LT 245 / 75r / 16 10 ply. I change them in my garage with a electric impact and a floor jack but I would like to run just one tire year round . Getting old and lazy I guess. The Michelins have served me well in the short alaska summers hauling my 2500 lbs truck camper. This is my 3 set. They handle our rough roads and never have had any issues. The Blizzacs are wonderful on the ice and snow but I would not want to haul the camper on them in the summer months. I need a 10 ply tire that will do both. Is there such a tire out there? And what would it be ? Thanks

If you have the tools to swap them, grabbing another set of wheels and just having two sets of tires isn't a terrible option. Some places will swap them for free if you buy the tires from them, too, whenever you want.

Just a thought. Two sets would last a very long time with your use case, and you could have the best tires for each season.

He already has two sets.

I've never found one that does both well. The closest thing was a brand new set of LTX M/S. They did well in the snow and ice when they were new but even just a few months old they were useless in the snow.

It's like I used to tell my motorcycle customers that wanted a tire that would do on and off road well. There's not one. The better they do in one area the worse they do in the other and the closer they get to equal they stink doing either.

Just my $0.02.

At the top of that page I just noticed there is a small link for their "tire decision selector", you can enter the items you are most in need of on a scale 1-5. Pretty neat.

Try that out and see what fits. Then you can repost any of the ones you are interested in to see if anyone runs that brand.

Even if you buy else where it's nice to have a good research tool.

i have to say, i'm happy with my cooper's atp
as well as my Goodyear Adventure with kevlar.
both are giveing me great millage on the road and are rather good in the snow.
Yes i live in AZ, but i live in Flagstaff, look it up. we get snow. lots n lots of it.

I run my Michelin LTX M/S year round and have never had a complaint with their traction in the snow & ice of the great white north, and my 4WD is all on the rear axle.

Look for the mountain snowflake rating.

Edit :for some reason the link above takes me to some bogus advertisement page. If this happens Click on the blue rectangle shaped box that says "tires-easy.com" and it will take you to the correct link.

I have no experience with them but I believe the Toyo C/T will be my next tire. I've ran other models of Toyo in the past and gotten good mileage out of them but this is the first tire they make (that I'm aware of) that carries the snowflake rating.

I run TOYO on our Traverse their CUV tire. Its a great tire. A lot of technology behind that tire. I was impressed with the documentation and testing R/D behind it. I'm sure if you look them up and They did the same for their commercial line it's Going to be a decent product.

They have a plant in GA, I think mine are out of Canada. Not that it matters but they are by no means some cheap import. Unfortunately between uninformed users and those who do no maintenace or basic upkeep anytire will become a junk tire in short order and drive horrible.

I've got the ExoGrapplers,Toyo CT's clone. I don't know if the brutal climate in San Diego will ever test the tire though. Beast of a tire.

Yes they are available. Found HAKKAPELIITTA LT2 ($725USD for 4).

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT2 tire is a winter tire designed for use on heavy SUVs, pick-ups and 4X4 vehicles. The steel belt package of this tire has over 60% more steel than passenger car tires.

It has superb grip on ice and plenty of deep snow traction. The tire is reinforced like a tire for commercial applications so it has remarkable levels of durability in tough conditions, but still has a comfortable ride appropriate for premium fitments like BMW X5s, Jeep Cherokees or other luxury brand Crossovers. A safe and versatile tire for most northern winter climates.

-----------------Then------------------

Found more locally available to me, their Rotiiva AT Plus ($758USD for 4) which does carry the snowflake rating, it's. 50k tire with decent reviews.

The extra sturdy Nokian Rotiiva AT Plus tire is a versatile all-season tire that is especially designed for heavy use on light trucks and pickups. It has an aggressive tread pattern that provides excellent grip and handling on road, a new tread compound for longer tread-life, and additional reinforcements inside the tire to make it even stronger than it's predecessor.

Nokian Tyres is the world's first tire manufacturer to introduce a production method using earth-friendly oils. Our birch leaf insignia guarantees the complete absence of toxic chemicals.

That is about the same price as here; the best price I found from a dealer was 680 Euros for a set of 4. Also important to watch out for are discounters that sell old stock. The price I have is for tires made in the last two years or less.

I heartily recommend them, have worked great for me, even hauling natural stone weighing over 1,5 tons!

Excellent point. This is from a local dealer, they move a lot of tires in general Jack Williams Tire across the river in PA. But will be checking for sure next time around for the date code.

BTW Nice looking rig. How are getting parts over in Germany? Do you have alot of snow/ice that they treat the roads with salt or brine. Truck looks really solid for sure.

My wife took German thru College I will have her try to translate your page before I do the "translate in English" button, I give her phrases from Google Translate and she does pretty well. She also spent a summer over in Germany. My company is a decent sized Siemens distributor of their electrical products, its on our bucket list to visit, also my dad was stationed there from 1962-1964 2nd Armor Div in the Army. So can make it a work/vacation visit.

Thanks...at risk of going off topic, below is a picture I am submitting for the Calendar. (Did a couple from our tour through the Alps and to Venice, but...)

I bought my truck from a Soldier based in Wiesbaden, it came out of Texas, and the first thing I did was pump 14 litres of Wax everywhere. So far, it is free of rust...if and when you come over, drop me a line, we have a big house, and the kids are moved away...

Yes, they salt like the dickens here, I can get parts for the Engine directly from Cummins, but they are EXPENSIVE. So I maintain a cabinet with all the sensors, head gasket set, head bolts, a Blue point Injection pumps...basically all the stuff I need. I have an import number, so I can get stuff sent here relatively problem free. Between Geno's and Rock Auto, I figure I can keep "Shawn" going for another 10 years. You can PM me for my email, and I have a PA number here as a VOIP...

sorry...have to look for the picture, but here is one of the Truck fully Loaded (over 2 US tonnes)...with over 5 K/bar in the tyres...(over 80 PSI)

Take care...

Off topic is fine. It shows the load rating of your tires for sure loaded up so kinda on topic.

My wife was in BONN which looks like it was just south east of where your location on the website shows. She was able to mostly translate your site

I like you pic with small travel trailer in tow. And also the ones on your website with that trailer loaded up with supplies building a carport. Post a few for the calendar for sure.
