A friend of mine has a non ic'd 91 with a 5 speed. He uses it as a daily driver as well as pulling a 4 horse trailer. We are looking to get 250-300hp out of it if at all possible.

I was thinking:

Gauges

gsk (3200)

pod injectors

A bump in timing

a bit of tweeking on the ve as per the fritz website.

clutch

16 housing

exhaust and a bhaf

you all think that will get it done or am I going about it all wrong? This is the first ve truck I will have ever messed with. I understand the radiators are nothing to write home about either. I would appreciate a shove in the correct direction. thanks

250 to 300

Is that k miles you hope to run the truck or horse power. You can easy get the hp but if you go to that range, you had better big up the radiator. Look around for the parts to install the later radiator and intercooler. Had a stock 90 model that puked the number six piston due to heat. Take care of the cooling before you get carried away. I have been through Cour D'arlene. You got some nice "hills" that will test whatever you do. I have a truck with PODs and the other stuff you mention and you can really tell the difference. Never had it dynoed so I don't know what it is actually pulling.

the pod injectors should destroy the engine quite nicely. add a bit of pump tweaking and you should not have any trouble at all in breaking the frame and ring and pinion gears. the 90's already had big injectors and were faster than the later ic models... ... break the gears and your out of luck! they are discontinued and no one else is making them..... Unless you are real handy with money and don't mind walking home from time to time it is best to leave well enough alone! We set the engines power at the level we did for a good reason! It was not because we did not know how to get more power out of them... .

But looking on the bright side of things. I guess you don't have too much to worry about..... You do have 4 horses... . I am sure they can tow the truck home and get you back and forth to the parts store while the truck is down... .

Heck... . Matt Dillion got 26 years out of his horse and who knows how many dates with Miss Kitty... Who needs pickup trucks anyway. . LOL

I have an early 91 and have tweaked it up a bit (I think I'm around 230 hp) and never had any radiator or engine coolant heat problems. Comes up to the first line on the gage and stays there. No EGT issues either.

Of course I don't tow anything and haul very little, it's "just" a daily driver.

You can see my signature for what I have done.

Hope this helps. Have fun.
