any thoughts?aluminum would be nice. my bed is hammered and the truck runs great with 105k miles. any pics of alum flatbeds?

I have a CM bed on my cab and chassis and am well pleased with it.

Truck Beds, Accessories, Become a CM Truck Bed Dealer! Remolques para Caballo, Ganado, Cajas cerradas, Plataforma cama alta y cama baja, equipos especiales, refacciones,

IMO CM builds one of the nicest looking beds because the headache rack has radiused corners and the headache rack fits the countour of the back of the truck cab rather than sharp angle cuts and welds that look like a home made bed.

CM is located in SW OK and has dealers all over the central US. Excellent quality and reasonable prices. I'll see if I can locate an old thread showing pictures of my truck when it was new in January 2008.

Edit: I don't know how to go back into TDR thread archives to locate old threads so can't post old photos.

I went with a Hillsboro aluminum flatbed that I got on ebay instead of a steel flatbed this time around. It was used and has some "character", but I couldn't be happier with it what I paid for it. It looks sharp and matches the silver/white truck nicely. At times I look out the door and think "my, my, my... that sure is a nice looking truck" ;)

I talked to several outfitters with aluminum beds before I got one. One had a aluminum from Cadet and wasn't happy because the welds would break and it was expensive to have the repair welded. He said he wouldn't have another one. However, when he switched trucks he ended up with a Layton aluminum bed and was very happy with it. Another outfitter has an aluminum Hillsboro and was happy with it.

It also very much depends on what you will be using the bed for. The Hillsboro have a steel frame attached to the truck frame that the gooseneck or five wheel hitch amounts to like B&W. Another option would be the frame mounted hidden ball hitches. New ones can be VERY expensive! There are a lot of nicer looking ones than the Hillsboro... for a price. I'd recommend avoiding the low end riveted models because I've heard they eventually work loose and creak, rattle and roll. Just my thoughts.

I had an Alum-line bed once (all aluminum frame and deck), it was well built and looked sharp but when I was running empty it was awful light. Couldn't hardly get around in sand or snow without putting it in 4wd. Something to consider.
