Anybody have suggestions, or better pictures of replacement bumbers for my '97. Mine got a little banged-up and I was going to replace it with a J. C. Whitney original style replacement for around $200. 00 but thought maybe I should check here for suggestions first. Thanks Erik

Hello Erik, Front or Rear bumper?

Lots of options: Reunel, denver off Road, John West, tough Country, Rhino, Ute, ARB, SouthTexasOutfitter, Browns Welding, RanchHand, Aliarc

$$$ is the key here, if you are looking at an OEM bumper consider ebay, I have saw them listed in the past.

Dad got rear-ended in his truck about a year ago.

He called JC-Whitney and ordered a traditional 'step-n-tow'. It arrived weeks later all banged up. After returning it to JC-Whitney... . he went to Chrysler and bought an OEM bumper for less than what JC-Whitney got for their crude replacement.

I shouldn't use the words crude and bumper in the same sentence. I have no right to call other people's bumpers crude when I look at what I have hanging off both ends of my beast... .

I just keep telling myself that they'll look decent when I'm done with them... .

I'm also in the market for a new bumper. Tired to convince my wife back in May when I got the truck but she wasn't going for it. We had to perform a self-rescue this past weekend and I had her try and figure out where to hook the come along cable. Devious I know. Now she says we NEED a decent bumper.

Could someone give me a rough idea of pricing on the bumpers mentioned so far. I'm clueless as to how much I need to budget.

TrailDog - - It gets even better. After we got the rig unstuck we started back down out of the mountains and came upon a 2nd gen that had almost slid over the bank. He was being winched out by someone else. After spending 30-40 minutes moving our truck a foot or two with the come along and then watching the winch pull the other Dodge several feet in a few minutes my wife said "... And I want a winch on that new bumper". Then on the way home she announced that we wouldn't have gotten stuck in the first place if we weren't running the crummy OEM tires (Duh!) and that she wanted me to replace them ASAP. This is the same lady who 8 weeks earlier told me that I couldn't replace them until they had worn out.

What I learned:

1) Yes there is a God!

2) If you are going to get your truck stuck make sure your wife is along and get her involved in the rescue effort.

Still curious as to approximate cost for a bumper

The bumpers from any of the vendors will run you anywhere from $500-$3000 for the really fancy ones.

I have been very impressed with: Reunel, UTE, ARB, Road Armor... as well as DOR (Denver Off Road).

They all have their fine points - and there are a LOT of differences between all of 'em.....

No matter who you end up with - do your homework in advance and look at lots of pictures to decide which is right for you.
