The little "observation" window ;) just aft of the main entrance door..... is it safe to tell me what it's original design intent was for, yet?

Thanks!

Sextent? I know that the C-141's had them for the Navigator. The older C-130's have been around long enough that they would have used them too. I suppose you could hold your hand-held GPS there now. :)

IIRC, the C-130 started out in 1954 and there are a ton of variations. But the models I've flown in had multiple observation windows along the sides. This is just to see things on the sides of the plane that the crew up front cant. Seeing where the bad guys are that keep shooting at you, what the weather is like outside, where the closest golf course and liquor store are. Depends on the mission...

I'll try to remember to look at the one in the parking lot at work and ask a few of the older guys about it, TACAMO used 130's till 88-89 then changed over the the E-6, even the 6's have a sextant port but no one teaches doing cell shots anymore!

I could try to get a hold of my Uncle, he's a Loadmaster in the A. F. if you all can't find an answer. He's been around them since the early 80's. 130's make better for jumpin' in my opinion, prop blast isn't that bad, but they get cramped on the inside.
