Hi,

my injector pump sprung a leak(140K!) so It's time I get a shop manual. I've been doing all my own work but I want to make sure I do this right. . Going to take my pump to a shop but I don't like let'n guys work on my trucks as far as R&R go. . Does the Service manual currently available from Diamler Chrysler for 93 Dodge ram pickups cover this info?... ... ... Thanks in advance... ... ... . Chuck

The manual for my late model 91 does NOT cover anything about the pump other than R&R and some external work. There is absolutely nothing about the internal workings of the pump. Don't think it will be much help.

I have the Cummins shop manual for the B series engine. It shows some external repairs as far as seals and the like but doesn't get into the internal repairs. Says that should only be done by a qualified service tech. HMMMMM, wonder if the pump tweaking we all do make us qualified?:D

I also have the cummins pump familiarization book but it doesn't get into repairs, just how the pumps work.

There are a couple 'O three places they leak from most often...

One is the oval metal plate/O-Ring on the bottom very back side...

The next is the throttle shaft seal, were the throttle connects to. .

The third is the oval metal plate/O-Ring on the bottom drivers fender side.

If the diesel shop is an authorized Bosch dealer, it can be fixed fairly easily.

Manuals for the truck itself are not meant to deal with this sort of issue. It's Bosch proprietary and DC/Bosch insist it go to an authorized dealer.

Thanks guys,

I was more refering to removing and installing correctly. . I want to make sure the installation goes right. . I'll order the manual today..... Found a nice thread on the topic here as well. .

From what I can tell I'ts leaking from a bolt on top, right over were the pump connects to the engine , Maybe there's a O ring in there... My Idle went down slightly and I was smelling diesel. When I went to start it the next morn , it puddled up pretty fast. After all this hassle,I'm definately going to have the pump checked out thoroughly before I install it... ... Now I'm going to have to drive my Ford around for a while:confused: ... . I miss my Dodge when it's down... Last time it was for paint and body work which was a good thing!

. . Anyone know a good Cummins/Bosch Injector pump place in So Cal/San Bernadino area that can put my pump through the test's?... ... ...

Thanks for all the help guys... ... ... Chuck

There is a place in Placentia called- Diesel Specialist, Inc.

350 E. Orangethorpe Ave. #12

Placentia, CA. 92870

Phone: 714-528-8442

They are authorized sales and service of Bosch, Stanadyne, Cav, Nippondenso, Roosa Master. Fuel injection pumps and injectors.

I have not used them on my truck, only for getting Stanadyne fuel additive. But they might be able to help you out.

Give them a call and see if they can do the test for you.

Good info here for anyone pulling their pump... . Anyway I got my pump out and I'm going to take it to Bosch rebuilder... Does anyone here know if this pump does all it's stuff in one revolution? If so that would be an easy install as well... ... ... Enjoy your Sunday... ... . Chuck

Well guys,

I went ahead and had my pump completelty rebuilt after hearing a few pump shops advice. . I talked with a man at a Bosch authorized shop that said even though my pump only had 140K on it ,it's still 10 years old and leaking and instead of putting a bandage on it (one or two seals) it would be smart to go with a complete overhaul... . well after reinstalling the pump (rebuilt to factory specs) I'm glad I went with the rebuild... The truck really woke up. . Lots of power, quieter and seems to sip fuel conservitively... It has more power than my tired pump did that had a few mild tweaks to it... One happy camper!!..... The shop that did the rebuild has first rate people . They did the pump on time and went way outta their way to make sure I was informed and comfortable with my install. . Got a 60K warranty on the pump as well... . The shop; Diesel Injection Service in San Bernardino CA.

These guys are professionals. . I would also like to thank you guys on the forum for helping out... . Great place!... ... ... ... . Chuck
