I am running the Bilstein 5100 now and they are too harsh with the Kore springs, I want something with more give. My teath are coming lose from the jaring ride. I am thinking King Shocks with custom valving (SOFT) and lots of travel... 10 inches or so. Any ideas?

10" Kings will bottom out on themselves at full bump. A full 10" Sway-A-Way will fit and give you a full 10" of travel. Fox 10" shock are even longer than Kings. You'll have to limit your trucks travel with longer bumpstops or get Custom 9" travel KINGs if you go with FOX or KING. Add $60 per shock for a custom 9" from KING

10" Travel Compressed lengths comparison.

19. 5" Fox

18. 375" King

16. 75" Sway-A-Way

My conclusions

FOX : limit the up travel (the travel that really counts with the wieght of the Cummins) by 2" by adding longer bump stops. You now have +-8" of travel, and 3-4 inches of usable up travel in the front.

KING: Spend an extra $120 per truck to get custom 9" travel shocks made. You now have 9" of total travel.

Sway-A-Way: 10" shock. No funny buisness needed to make them fit and you have 20% more travel were you need it! A FULL 10" of travel can be had using SAW shocks

Any one of these shock are user friendly and customer valvable. Heres a guide to revalving a SAW.

Yep. 10" KINGs bottom out after the axel is only . "25 into the bump stop using my tower. If you bottom out you will be metal to metal on the shock. 1/4" of bump stop is not enough in my opinion.

The shock mounting bolt on my tower sits 5. 25" above the base of the tower. It's not enough to clear a 10" King comfertably.

Notice the blue ring on the 10" King. It's sitting about . 25" below the top the bump stop. The bottom heim joint on the King is 2" long.

2" hiem + . 25" below the top of the bump stop = 2. 25" of bump stop being used before it even hits the axel. The stock bump stop is 2. 5" long, leaving . 25" of usable factory bump stop before the shock is collapsed metal to metal.

This is using my shock tower that is taller than what's on the market.

Thanks for the awesome writeup, I've been looking to do the same thing since I found out 5100s were on national backorder and I added 35s to stock suspension.

Lorenz what would be the total cost of a set of custom Kings 9" and the towers... ? Compaired to the Sway Aways... .

Towers are $365 a pair.

2. 0 emulsion SAW $230

2. 0 emulsion KING $225 + $60= $285

Kings and SAW's are pretty close to the same price through out both line ups (2. 0/2. 5 and reservoirs/non reservoirs). The difference comes from the extra $60 PER SHOCK for the custom 9" travel King.

Here's a complete list of shocks to choose from with pricing. I highly recommend the 2. 5 series remote reservoir to handle the weight of the Cummins. It would be the same size (2. 5") as the KORE/FOX "Race" product.
