I have an '03 HO 6 speed with the Mopar Jacobs brake. Apperently, I have one of the first few HO motors and computers that were sent out because the brake is suppose to deactivate at idle when the temp reaches 175*, but my computer is set to 220*. Since the engine doesn't ever get this hot the brake never shuts off at idle. My dealer (which I have little confidence in) has told me they can not reprogram the computer, but Cummins says it is possible. The problem is DC will not let Cummins touch the computers with out voiding the warrente.

Does anyone know for sure if this setting can be changed or not.

Thanks,

Aaron

Welcome to the club! If you don't get any response on this you may wan't to do a search. I remember it being discussed a while back and if I remember rite, there is a way to change it.

It was my understanding the early models couldn't be changed but I would be interested if someone has finally found a way. However I can live with it the way it is.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking for a while, trying to read as much as I can. I did a small search, but I guess i have to spend more time on it. I can live with the hiss too, but I thought if it could be shut down I would do it.

Anyone else???

Thanks,

Aaron

Mine also does not shut off at idle. I wired it into a foot pedal like the highway trucks use and just step on it when I want it. It works for me.

This thread has the last authoritative word we've heard on the subject of the different brake idle-disengage temperatures. As you can see, there are several of us who would like to have that value changed so ours will shut off at intersections.

Perhaps Carlton will see this thread and chime in with news that he's heard DC is responding to this customer demand ;) (one can only hope)

The brake needs to run at idle mode..... even when the temperature drops... .

Your driving in the winter and your going down a long down grade. . as I do with my 04... ... with outside temperatures at 35* the coolant temperature falls right off... . if you change the programing of the exhaust brake it would shut down... . as the temp dropped... .

We offer our customers several choices... ... 1- switch on shift lever to turn the brake off/on 2 - switch on the floor to turn brake off/on

I personally leave the brake on all the time... ... and don't worry about the noise as it sits and idles... .

BTW - you should check the clamps where the brake mounts to the turbo several times in the first few thousand miles... . this clamp will loosen as it heats and cools and if it leaks you'll loose some of the back pressure... ...
