What is the very best? Considering a Weatherguard or UWS, in black, as I feel it will look better on my silver. Over the rail. What brands are the most dependable, highest quality equipment, etc. Don't have a truck store around, so I'll be going thru mail order. Didnt find much in search. Any suggestions are appreciated!

As Good As It Gets

Dixie Dawg, Check out these boxes at www.putco.com they are the best box you can buy. Keep in mind they aren't cheep but no one makes a better box they last forever and are they have the thickest wall and lid construction of any box on the market.

I don't own one too much $$$$$ for me but if I had the dough I would.

Almost forgot, DeZee make their new Platnum series which is like a dark gray color, they are pretty nice as well they have a reinforced lid so you can stand on it. My tool box is a Challenger that I bought from a local truck shop it's pretty nice and doesn't leek.

Weatherguard

I currently have a Weatherguard 117 (Black diamond plate) on my truck. I had a lesser quality box on the last truck, which worked okay but was in no way the quality of Weatherguard. The last box cost around $300, the one I have now is around $500. If you plan on keeping it for a long time, go with Weatherguard or it's equivilant. I looked at the DeeZee series before I bought the WG, the quality is there but they seemed somewhat more pricey than the WG.

I have owned ProTech boxes in the past and found them to be excellent quality. It is line of boxes preferred by long haulers for their gear. ;) ;) ;)

Check these guys http://www.trucktrunk.com/

The top slides side to side. Low profile works very well for 5ers. It is very well made. When I bought mine for the 93, they did not have the wide one for that bed. Saleman said that one for new truck would fit and if I ever got a new truck, it would fit it also. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED on the way to Pizza (twice - 93 and 2001. 5). Love going to Pizza, the Honda and Dodge dealers are both on that route. Wife got a new Accord EX V6 in Feb and in June she "let" me have the new Dodge CTD so I would leave her Honda alone. SNOKING

I have the black aluminum diamond plate Weatherguard 5ver box and am very satisfied with it. I looked at a number of lesser boxes at various retail truck accessory shops here in Houston and wound up being referred by one of the shops to a commercial truck rigging company who handled the Weatherguard. I believe I paid around $470 installed. To date, I haven't found a drop of water in it from either rain or condensation (a problem with a lot of boxes here in the high humidity of the Texas Gulf Coast).

DeeZee

I have a DeeZee Gold series utility chest in the back of my truck. I'm quite pleased with it so far. At about $400 installed, I'm not sure it was great value. Of course, the worst value is buying something that doesn't do the job, and paying a second time to get it right.

DeeZee Platinum series

I had the DeeZee Platinum series that DarrellB described, before selling it to a friend in South Carolina. (Big Ugly, VP of the SETDR)

Awesome toolbox, beautiful color that goes with a black, silver, or gray truck... though I did have mine painted black by a bodyshop. It's strong as all get-out, lasted me through 3 trucks.

Weatherguard is about the best for working professionals, the quality beats every other brand hands down. But that DeeZee is mighty hard to beat for great looks and service.

Give Rawson-Koenig a look at www.rawson-koenig.com. I researched and looked at many brands before buying a C63WDA. I wanted the largest box I could find. Weatherguard makes one essentially the same size, but it is about 30 pounds lighter. I equate weight with quality, except in women. Also, the Rawson is vented and the Weatherguard is not--I found myself having to use two motions to latch the lid: close it in one motion and then give it another push to latch it. Holes could be drilled in the Weatherguard to solve this, though. The Rawson does not come in black, only white steel or polished aluminum diamond plate. I have had success painting aluminum: sand blast it lightly with extra-fine sand, prime it with zinc chromate, then paint it.

If weight equals Quality then I must have the worlds best toolbox!!! I made it myself before we sold our case manufacturing business. It is 4 layers of . 080 aluminum and spray coated with Armorthane to match the bed. It weighs 200lbs empty weight!!!!

It is attached via grade 8 7/16" bolts. Excessive-compulsive!! You bet!!! That is why I own a Cummins!!!

I have the same box as Rusty JC. I love the fact that I have to push it one more time to latch. Seems to convey perfect fit & high quality. I highly recommend this box. It also comes with complete instruction for mounting. (Great for do it yourselfers).
