Hi guys/girls,

I need someones VIN for a Ram Cummins that is 4WD or 2WD but is equipped from the factory with a G56 6 Speed manual gearbox.
Im in the UK and as you can imagine these trucks arent very common.

The truck is currently sitting on axle stands waiting for a new gearbox. My truck is a 2003 Ram 2500 with the 5.9 HO Cummins and 48RE auto, i was in the process of doing the auto to manual conversion, however after collecting all the parts, completing the wiring and fitting the new southbend clutch and hydraulics, i was just about ready to stab the transmission and fit the release bearing and fork when i noticed the input shaft is considerably smaller than the internal diameter of the release bearing, the fork was also too large.
As is turns out the supplier i got the G56 from sold it as a G56 for cummins diesel but it is actually for a Hemi.

I cannot find another G56 anywhere in Europe that is less than $10000, the cheapest place i can get one is Rockauto but they require the VIN number to match with the gearbox, all very frustrating.

If someone could give me their VIN if they have a 4WD or 2WD G56 Ram Cummins so i can place an order and get my truck back on the road that would be greatly appreciated. I have been without it now for 10 days.

Try these part numbers.

Hi Patriot, Thanks for the quick reply but unfortunately they only give me the part numbers for the NV5600. Ordering through Rockauto requires a VIN number that matches the part. i.e. for the G56 trans i need for the swap, i would have to have the VIN from a 2005.5 or newer truck that has the G56 as a factory fitted option.

However, searching with those trans numbers did give me some more suppliers i can try so thank you for that!

Hey GAmes,

Yes i am aware of the different gear ratios, im not too bothered about it reving so high for the moment, my main concern was geting rid of the junk auto box. I am running 3.73's, for anyone else interested i have attached the 2 different calculated speeds for the AD and AE versions both of them based on 34" tyres. When ordering from Rockauto there is no way of choosing which gear ratio you get as far as i can tell, i will just need to be greatful if i get any G56 :)

GAmes,

Also just for your information, the 4WD G56 is the same as the 2WD G56, the rear flange is removed with one bolt and just need to replace the rear seal with the one for the 4WD version so the transfer case input shaft can slide in and get sealed properly, pretty easy to do took me max 10 minutes

Hi again guys,

Rockauto only have a 2WD G56 available and still wont allow me to purchase unless the VIn matches, can anyone provide me with a G56 2WD VIN number?

I have the early G-56 and prefer it as my 1800# camper's on all the time and I run 35's.
I do reach for that 7th gear sometimes though.

Thats good info, i dont tow very often at the moment but the plan is to get a camper or tow a caravan for trips in europe so shouldnt be an issue, plus it gives me an excuse to move up to a larger tire!:-laf

Thank you to everyone that responded, the gearbox is now ordered and should hopefully arrive by wednesday so i can get this truck back together and have some fun. Thanks again everyone!
