morning all...

here's my situation:

ordered truck on oct,15. 04 red sport SRW short bed larime auto HO. all the options except plow package. best price from dealer: 38,900. dealer said should arrive on dec 8. called the 8th and was told truck is still in mexico. should arrive dec 26. called yesterday and dealer can't find the truck in the computer.

we ended up paying $1000 over invoice. since we agreed on the price in october i have since read here HOW MUCH I SHOULD PAY! should i (can I) get my $500 deposit back and take my buisness to a dealer who will sell me the above truck for 3% less the invoice minus rebates? i have family in ST. Louis where tommygun works. it would be worth the 15 hour drive back to save $4000 dollars! thanks for any advice... . james

I would ask for my deposit back based on failure to deliver. I have never be required to put money down on an ordered vehicle, and have always been told that I wasn't obligated to buy when it arrived. I have also been treated very well on the price (no more than $200 over invoice) when ordering, because they will be getting their money right away and the truck won't be sitting on the lot for an undeterminable length of time.

If I thought I could do better, I'd ask for my deposit back. The worse thing that could happen is that they would say No.

I have always found that life is best when we follow a rule learned in kindergarten "Let's all be friends" The friendly thing for your dealer to do is apologize for his shortcomings in delivering your truck as promised. He should offer some consolation.

The best thing for you to do is go to your dealer and tell him of your disappointment with DC in not meeting their delivery commitments. Because of your disappointment you have began looking for another vehicle and during your search you have located a considerably better price. Because of the delays and frustration, might he be receptive to a price break in order to retain your business and friendship?

You have to wonder at this point whether the order was placed on a timely basis and if possibly the order is LOST!

I think one always gets farther in negotiations with a friendly attitude.

Amen DocDyno -- well said! I couldn't agree more.

TobaccoGrower, don't feel too bad about that price -- I didn't even get that good of a deal from my dealer and mine had 900 miles on it :( Live and learn huh? I should have researched TDR first.

$$$$$$

Well if it were my pocket book in the equation, I know what would happen!! First of all if there was $4000 difference in price for the same rig, I would ask for my $500 back. That is if they were unwilling to at least come close to the difference. If they said no, I would tell them to have a nice life, as we would never be seeing each other again, and make the trip for the $3500 difference.

I was not required to put up any money when I ordered my new one. And I even offered. They told me no that it was'nt necessary. Moral of the story, better $3500 in my pocket than in the pocket of some greedy persons!!!!!! Just my$. 02

I'm tired of waiting too!!!

Tobaccogrower I feel the same way you do.

I ordered my truck on Oct 16 through a friend of someone I work with in northwest PA. Great guy to deal with. He sent me a copy of the order right after he put it in and got confirmation back. I ordered a 2500 SLT HO, 4x4, QC, LB, SRW, no slip, etc... basically everything but leather seats and an upgraded stereo. The final price was $40,115 with the DC friends and family discount and the $2500 off I ended up getting it for $32,880. The truck exited the factory around Dec 1.

I thought this was a good deal until I saw what Tomeygun can do

Here's what I was thinking. It's sure doesn't look like I will be able to take delivery of the truck between now and Jan 1 and get some extra $$$ back for the year end deals  and I've already waited 2 1/2 months so what's another couple of weeks  .

I was wondering if Tomeygun can take delivery of the truck or if possible do a swap with the dealer I ordered it through to get him something he wanted so I can do the actual purchase through Tomeygun and take advantage of some of the regional discounts and savings etc. . he can get. That and if there's any way I can bring business to anyone who is a part of TDR I'm all for it. Unfortunately I ordered the truck a couple of days too soon before I knew about Tomeygun.

Tomeygun what do you think of this?

Is this swap possible or are we spinning our wheels in wet lleaves. Anything is better than where we're at right now. Thanks Jay

Doc, that sounds all well and good. Many of us have found good dealerships and built good working relationships with them. That is ideal IF it is possible, but we must remember that we are dealing with people that "sell automobiles". It is unfortunate that so many have less scruples than a rattlesnake (my appoligies to the snakes). The first step in negotiations would be to ask for your money back, at that point if the dealer cares about your buisness he'll start negoating. If he doesn't you would be better off elsewhere. In todays economic climate I beleive that most will deal before losing a sale. If all else fails then barbwire has the right idea, better to lose $500 than $4000, but I doubt it will go that far.

BTW I know how hard it is to wait, I got the first 2003 dually in these parts. I waited 3mos and 8days, hang in there brother.

I can locate you one if you like, I will quote you a price, and if it is good, then great, if not, then you still have the other one coming, you know?

and By the way, Tobaccogrower, lower the price I PM'ed you by $200, I did wrong math... i thought you wouldn't mind, :D

if you both would like to call me to go over options (locate, re-order, etc) - 314-966-0630 , cell - 314-486-6378

Torque King Jay: tell them my price and try to get them to come down, heck, threaten to pull out of the order, CAUTION- they may call your bluff, then your screwed

any other questions, let me know, thanks!!!

Tomeygun,

I know you are not on the clock, but when I decide to order a new truck can I buy it from you? Is Shipping tough & a PITA to do?

I am looking into "dropshipping" and regular shipping as other means other than fly-in-drive-back, like most do now, call me when your ready, thanks!
