Getting '77 Ford F150 for my kids to learn on

'77 F150 with 351M, needs to breathe!

I'm trying to unscrew a few of the screws holding the windshield hinges on my '94 Wrangler. I need to do this so I can screw in the bracket that holds the sideview mirror to the body rather than the door so I can take my doors off. Problem is that as I was turning the screw, whatever nut or gizmo that holds it on the inside of the windshield frame turned with it. Now I can't remove the screws. I asked a Jeep guy and work and he knew exactly what I was taking about. His idea was to drill out the screw and use a new one. But then how do I get to the nut on the inside of the windshield frame that will obviously drop down as soon as I get the screw out? He also suggested that if they are all like this-and they are-that replacing the frame with one of those that all the Jeep catalogs have might be the best way. I'm not for that choice. Last idea is to just weld the bracket to the outside of the hinge where it is supposed to go. But then it's permanent.

Anyone have any ideas? I may just go with the welding option, but not sure yet.

Thanks!

I haven't had to remove one yet so I can't say for sure but I would guess you will find a threaded insert not a nut that will fall off
