Hey guys I recently bought an 06 2500 4wd with 20,000 miles

I'm looking to make it alittle more fun to drive, I've already got a smarty and a cold air intake, Im looking fot gauges now, I want to keep adding to the list, I know the CTD is very stout and but i have a 48re and I have heard horror stories about it, so what can i do to keep in from braking or coming apart? Thanks

#3 mild or less. Drive like you want the trans to last, don't thrash it. A deeper pan. Save for some parts and put them in before you put a whole bunch of miles on the trans. Or save for an exchange. Your trans might last a good long time if you take care of it. Since you don't know it's history, change the fluid and filter now. If you have a spare couple of hundred laying around it would be a good time to put a PML on. If you have more spare change and are so inclined you might want a Mag-Hytec but the PML should suit you just fine for a little less. Don't cheap out on the fluid, get some with a reputation behind it. You will find more companies now with atf+4 but go with something that is recommended by people that have had success with what they use. Get some gauges and put the sensor in the hot line. You should really have gauges for the smarty so you can see if your exhaust is getting engine parts too hot. The transmission should not get too hot unless you are in some real hot weather, pulling heavy, or driving your truck with a plow on it or something else that blocks the air to the cooler. You might want to look at something like a commander or attitude that gives you some engine adjustments and they have a digital display that function like gauges.

I'm not too knowledgeable about this stuff but I figured I would put my . 02 in because no one else had.

If you fill in your signature the people that do know won't need to ask.

the guy above me mentioned a deeper pan. if you want I have a double deep pan from ATS Diesel that is drilled and tapped for a trans temp sensor. it also comes with a magnetic drain plug to make fluid changes and filter changes alot less messy. If you want I have a brand new never used filter for the 48re sitting on the shelf too I will throw that in with the package. PM me if you want it and I will name a price. I no longer will be needing it as i am swapping to a G56 6 speed for a number of reasons.
