I've got a 4bt (out of a frito lay truck) in my '89 Chevy. I need to find a new alternator for this motor. The old one can't be rebuilt because the pulley spun on the shaft, damaging both the shaft and the pulley beyond repair (long story on how this actually happened!)
Everyone I've checked with tells me that this motor doesn't exist. I checked with NAPA, and they do not have anything listed in their books. We found several alternators that are the right size. It's just a a 3-wire delco alternator (10si, I think), but all of the ones that NAPA had in stock had the wrong size pulley (6 grove serpentine belt instead of the wider 8-groove belt on the 4bt). The shaft on my alternator is also longer than the standard GM alternator.
I also checked with the local chevy truck dealer, refering to a P-30 step van (I think this is what the frito lay trucks were called). They didn't have anything listed with a 4bt.
According to Cummins, the alternator was provided by the chassis manufacturer and they do not provide support for this part.
Does anyone know where I can source an alternator? Even a part number would be a big help. Thanks!
