Ceramic coating on the manifold?

Catcher ECM to Smarty upgrade

Looking to find easiest cheapest quickest source of a Dayco 89005 pulley for belt tensioner. Also need a new belt. AutoZone has Gatorback for 31. 99. Is that worth it over their cheaper Duralast? Genos has pulley for 19. 95 plus their 6. 00 shipping. But they have to order it - more delay.

Knew the pulley needed replacing but it seized up at midnite 60 miles from Modesto while pulling empty UHaul 6x12 back home. AAA flatbedded truck home but wanted $5 per mile to tow empty trailer - thats $300. So came back next day and brougjht it home with frineds Cherokee. So it seems from that lesson that anything towed will not be covered by tow insurance. Most frequent towers must already know that. thanks for comments Larry in Modesto, Ca.

belt tensioner pulley and belt

Ok, I just found a new Gates pulley ($19+incl tx) that is a match at local wholesaler along with OEM Gates belt ($30+inc tx) Is the segmented Goodyear Gatorback much better? Its available at AZone for about 31. 00.

Must r&r pulley from the tensioner now but no T-50 tork socket. But the T-50 female tork bolt will accept the square male 3/8 drive with no slack as an alternative but will I be damaging it?? Any experience substituting with 3/8 sq. drive in lieu of a tork socket??

Seems lots of people here like the gatorback belt for replacements... much better then thier GSA tires!

I have been working on Case equipment with Cummins engines for over 10 years. Only twice in that time have I seen the tensioner pulley go bad. I replace a tensioner at least once a month, and there are 4 techs in the shop. Usually the tensioner it self wears internally and tilts, and the belt runs off to the side and self destructs.

It's interesting how many people here have pulley failures. Is this a truck thing?

Gator back is so nice to have because there is no more squeak when the truck is shut off. Well worth the extra few bucks

I went crazy trying the local parts houses finally ended uo getting one @ Cummins. Should have gone there to begin with.

belt tensioner pulley solved

The Gates pulley was in the end not a match for the 89005 Dayco pulley. Only discovered it at install to tensioner time. Its bearing is narrower in depth from each side but otherwise width and circumference of plastic pulley were identical. So returned it and found the correct Dayco one at another parts house $19 and change wholesale.

Also used a new Gatorback belt. No more shut down chirp. Once pulled into Office Max and two ladies conversing nearby paid little attention to the engine clatta but that unexpected highpitched chirp gave them a real start and they laughed about it with me as I stopped and explained the wonders of the highcompression diesel cummins belt slip music. May miss it for a while!

The pulley failure was strictly a bearing failure and two years earlier squirted some lubricant around the bearing externally and it quieted down and I forgot about it, kinda. But I thought it would give me a bit of a warning. When it seized on the road at 60mph I heard nothing and the belt never broke it just melted the unmoving plastic wheel on one side until the belt went slack and with no water pump in action the cab started cooling down and engine light came on and water temp had climbed to 190 and I pulled over and shut it down. Did not lose any coolant. Feel fortunate. Wondering now if a new bearing could have been pressed into the plastic pulley while it was still undamaged. I see no evidence of tensioner misaligning belt position.

I got a Gatorback belt a few years ago for my 91. It squealed like stuck pig all the time. I tried to return it to AutoZone, but got the run around- I had lost the receipt, and even though it was in the computer, they wouldnt take it back because it had been installed  I wont run another one. I got my last belt from NAPA for $20. Much better, IMO. My shut down solenoid is slow enough I dont get the chirp.
