DaveN... do a search and find a post by ted Jannetty. . "Proper order for upgrades". I believe it to be one of the best posts ever on this board. There are many things to consider when BOMBing... especially with the auto. If you go to far in power, you will need to upgrade your transmission, which will be an expense in itself. (Not sure, but think over 1000 dollars). People have gotten away with 275 injectors or a small box(VA or EZ), but rarely do I read about someone who has both without needing to beef up the transmission. A good shop will explain it better than I can. Choose wisely and happy BOMBing!

I wouldn't swear to it but I think first on the list was a set of gauges.

I have a 2001 Auto and i dont tow either. I have the JRE 4" exhaust, Psychotty intake, EGT, Boost and Trans temp gauges. Plus the Amsoil Dual Bypass. My transmission stays nice and cool (Even cooler once i change to a Mag-Hytec) and the dealer cant bother me about anything. I would love to do a EZ box or one of the others, but if i do the required changes to the TQ and Valve body to make the box safe my Warranty on the trannie is history. I am honestly happy with the power i got from just the exhaust and the intake. My EGT is down, the truck accelerates quicker, sounds nicer and i have plenty of Lane changing/on ramp power

if you plan on doing any HP upgrades , the trans should be on the list above the upgrades , you'll be amazed at how much better it drives that you may decide you don't need HP upgrade . but that also depends on who's TC you buy , all but one won't make much if any difference in excelleration before lockup .

Almost forgot, All my mods (minus the Amsoil kit) cost me less then a grand. I got my gauges and K&N from Summit, the Exhaust from Jannetty and the Psychotty from Toys4u. The savings on fuel have made the price even less.

so what kind of mileage gains are you seeing, emddiesel?

Sorry for the long post #ad

Thanks, Rob, I am.
For DaveN - Rob installed the same setup on my 99 dually automatic. (Search and you can find my thread). Essentially this is a good BOMB at the upper limit of the stock transmission. Mileage improved 1. 5 mpg and the power was nice. I could sense, though, the transmission would not take anymore (like a fueling/timing box). Happy BOMBing. Joe

The Power Edge EZ is a great product. You would want to add guages if you do anything really. I love the EZ in my truck made a very noticable difference.

I think the whole key is getting it breathing right so here is what I would do.

Guages
K&N 0880 & 25-0880 prefilter
strait pipe
DD1s
disabled wastegate or boost module

This is a good start. About 2mpg no temp problems even when pulling in the hills.
The guages are the most important thing though because without them you may not notice a problem until you are calling the tow truck.

just my $. 02

Scott

DaveN, for what you want to use it for, take the easiest step. Try an EZ, and if you don't like it, send it back. But I'll bet you wont send it back. Makes a noticeable improvement on a stock truck. Plus, it's easy to install. I've had a few guys tell me it improved mileage, too. If you can drive normal, you will probably see a mileage increase.

Here's the Ted Jannetty post of a few months ago. Best advice on subject I have seen. I did the guages, VA box, and 4" exhaust. Wonderful performance improvement.

Hello to all,
I had posted a similar thread months ago and thought I would post it again since there are so many new members, and this is a frequently asked question.
1) Guages, boost Pyrometer, optional transmission temp.
2) K&N air filter in the stock air box or a scotty air system.
3) 4" exhaust turbo to tail pipe, preferably mandrel bent aluminized.
4) Then some sort of fuel enhancements, i. e. Van AAken CPC or larger injectors, but not both at the same time until upgrades to the torque converter and valve body on Auto's, or a clutch on a manual
5) High quality low stall converter, preferably 1600 rpm, and a valve body modifications to recalibrate to handle the extra power.
I prefer the Centerforce dual friction clutch on the manuals.
6) Depending on what you choose on #4 finish the job with injectors or Box.
7) 1/2 inch fuel system to feed that hungry powerhouse, and keep that injection pump cool and lubricated.
8) US Gear 20% Overdrive auxillary transmission so you can use all that new found power.
How's 1800 rpms at 75 mph sound?
9) A BD turbo mount exhaust brake to slow her down.

This information is based on my 19 years expierence modifying vehicles to fit the needs of individuals, buying parts that don't fit and making them work better than they where designed too, finding ways to put 850 hp to the ground with a 10 inch tire, soon to be 1100 hp 360 cubic inch small block chevy.
Leaving the starting line with the front wheels three feet in the air for the first 70 feet is a rush like you wouldn't beleive.

I love what I do! only second to my wife and kids.

Well I'm finally to the point where I've heard enough about bombing and I'd like to start. My truck info is below, what I'm looking for is a performance add that will improve my mileage. I don't want to go hog wild, as my auto is the "fusible link". I know there are hundereds of different combo's out there, I'm looking for a few recipes to try. I also don't want to spend a small fortune either.

Other info- 98% of my driving is unloaded at highway speeds (2000 rpm +- 200 RPM), I have towed with it, don't have any complaints about power, etc. Currently running the 265/75R16's from the factory.

Thanks-

Dave
