Hi all, I want to buy a nice 1st generation extended cab 4x4 single axle with an auto transmission. What are the problem areas on these trucks I need to be aware of? Any weak spots? What are the plusses to these trucks over the Ram? How much is a fair price for a clean 1993 X-cab 4x4 with about 100K on the clock? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend a 93. It has the OD transmission, intercooler, and big bore injectors. It's a snap to get quicker response with a smaller exhaust side turbo housing, and more power with bigger squirters.

RamBill a late 92 or 93 would be a nice one to own. The throttle posistion sensor (TPS) are problems for the auto's. The 3. 54 rear end is preferable unless towing heavy loads. The rear jump seats aren't very comfortable.
There is plenty of room under the hood compared to the new Rams. 1st gen 4x4's have manual locking front hubs. Check out the TSB's and the TDR classified for more info.
Good luck.

I agree on the '93. Pricewise, your lookin anywhere from probably $10,000 - $15,000 for a decent truck. Good luck finding an extended cab, especially auto transmission. You picked the model that there is probably the least of out there, but I'm sure you can find one if you look far and wide (who know's? maybe there is one next door!) Along the lines of advantages, its mostly opinion, I think. I know the pumps are easier to "play with" and there's a lot more room to work under the hood. Some people claim the 1st gen. 's are more heavy duty and will haul more, but I,ve never done a comparison. You may not like the font leaf spring suspension ride, but there are ways around it if thats an issue. Good Luck finding the rig you want and I hope to see you in our forum soon! Hope my advice can help you decide.
