I first posted this in the "Towing" thread but later thought it should be in "911".

Just finished wiring up my fuel selector valve and pump for my auxilary tank. Went for a test drive and the cruise control would not turn on.

Is there a connector for the cruise control in the sterring column that I may have accidently unplugged?

Have you checked the fuses? Or the vacuum lines to the cruise vacuum motor? I don't know where at on the truck you were working but you may have dislodged something (vacuum lines) or grounded something that did this.

I don't know, you'll have to check your owners manual, or wait for someone with your year truck to chime in here.

Does the light for cruise control come on?

Does your horn work?

Is the check engine light on?

There is a connector at the top of the steering column for cruise you have to take the shroud just behind the steering wheel to see it. The horn also uses this connector it connects to the clockspring.

If the light for cruise doesn't come on then vacuum isn't the problem.

OK, I feel like such a fool!

First thanks to all who replied to my cry for help.

While on my way to work last night I realized that I had not tried to set the cruise, only tried to turn it on. I pushed the cruise button one time then pushed the set button and the cruise engaged like normal. It seems that the cruise on indication light has burned out. I never liked that bright green light that I could not turn off with the other dash lights any way, so I am as happy as can be. Lesson learned, look for the simple things first.
