Towing with Smarty

I got the edge A2 with tomtom navigation but they say the maps are last year's version. Seems to me like they are older than that! I live in a neighborhood that was built 3 years ago and it doesn't even show up! You can go to tomtom.com and download the full U. S current map but it's 120 bucks! Feels like a rip off since I just paid over a grand for the A2. Any one know of any way to get the maps cheaper? Maybe from another company or something?

You might look on eBay. Like most new software, the TomTom maps are not very friendly. You have to register the software for it to work, and they will not let you load it to multiple devices. If it comes pre installed then about your only option is to buy an upgrade.

I have the TomTom maps installed on my Palm. When I upgraded my palm I was able to move the maps, but I think it said that that was a one time process. Also... after using the TomTom software for the past several months I'm less than happy with it. The software company is located in Europe, and customer support is not good at all. The maps and routing are hard to work with and several times it has directed me down roads that I know to be dead ends (not a pleasant thought when towing a 32' fifth wheel). I think this program would be great for using in a town where you wanted to find a particular address, or store, but when you get out into the country the directions become suspect and I would be very hesitant to use them while towing in a strange area... JMHO... ;)
