Situation:

Removed timing case cover to R&R the KDP. Pin was walking out but still in the case ( :) ), tapped pin back in the case as far as it would go. Plan was to stake the hole so the pin couldnt back out any more.

Problem:

The pin is very slightly inside of flush, no room to stake. I thought the pin was normally down in the hole

Truck needs to be back in service by Monday  .

Any comments appreciated.

Do you mean it is still protruding out of the hole a little? I would try a dremel tool to grind a little off the pin to get it flush then do the tab fix. I'm not sure how far the pin can be out to still tab it safely. Mine was still flush when I fixed mine.

I'm sure Joe G. will see this post, he is knowledgeable with the tab fix. Drop him a PM if you need to

Good Luck

Chris

edit: I assume this is on the 98? I didnt think the 24v had this problem

Make a tab and tab it. If not possible, then clean & degrease kdp hole and use geeen wicking loctite. Still would tab it as soon as possible.

Tejas Deezul,

Send me your e-mail address and I will send you what I have in the way of instructions for installing a blocking tab.

Solution:

I drove the pin back as far as possible, peened the hole over, made a tab based on Joe's email directions and put it all back with blue loctite.

The crack in the block side gasket was 'fixed' with black silicone worked in, so far no leaks.

Thanks for all your input.
