I am going to need a better clutch if I am going to add more power with the Smarty jr. I can only run the 40hp setting safely without slipping my stocker clutch. I need to keep a light clutch pedal because I have had back surgery. I am looking at the South Bend 3250 DD.

My question to you guys that run a DD clutch is:

Does your trans shift harder or take longer to engage into the next gear due to more rotating mass from TWO clutch discs? Harder on the synchros? I wondered this from the git-go then I read some posts about guys complaining of seemingly harder shifting with DD clutches.
I don't know if they had their clutch set up right.
I plan on also running the HD clutch master and slave.

The 3250DD set-up will handle the HP I want and give me an easy pedal.
 
Your profile says Calif. I'm in San Diego and drove MSneider's '05 G-56. w/sbc's 3250 DD. If you're not too far away,you might consider driving down here for a test drive. I'm sure Mark would be glad to have you. Peter's coming up with another clutch for us,and is very accessible via phone. He might be able to give you more info.

Yes it takes longer to shift. It often requires nudging 5th before going into first or second to start off... same thing with reverse. I usually double clutch to save wear on the synchros.

I've had the 3850 DD and 3250. If you're going to be daily driving the truck, don't consider anything else but the 3250. It is a diaphragm style pressure plate that is meant for high cyclical loading before failure, and will hold 850+ h. p.

The 3600 and 3850 are finger-style pressure plate designs which are prone to much earlier failure under daily driving conditions.

Call up Haisley machine and ask about the McLeod Street twin. I have one on my truck and it has around 600 hp and I have yet to slip it. It has excellent road manners. The pedal feels stock, it disengages smoothly, there is no fighting with the gearshift when you shift, and reverse is cake to get to. I have driven other trucks with the South Bend dd3650 and was not impressed. The only down side to the McLeod is that you cannot use it for sled pulling. They only recommend extreme towing and drag racing.
