LORENZ's New Toy

Home made splash guards

I have a 2002 DRW 2 wheel drive that I carry a slide-in camper with. Camper is about 2,500-3,000 lbs. What shock should I upgrade to? I still have the original shocks, am original owner and truck has only 20,000 on it. I see Rancho and Bilstein as the most written about. I have air bags on the rear, and add air as needed at gas station. I don't want to add in cab controls. What brand and model number do actual users think is best.

Thank You

I run the Rancho 9000 all around. Like to be able to set the ride softer when the camper is off. I also have air bags that had to be aired up like yours and it was just fine, then came across an in cab controler and compressor. That is nice, adjust some up or down depending on road conditions. The draw back to that was the two bags are tied togather. Going around curves air would shift from one bag to the other. fixed that problem by installing a valve in line with one bag. So now I inflate the bags and close the valve. Not a big deal, also the valve aids in leveling the camper side to side when parked at a camp ground or in the boonies.

I run the Rancho 9000, older 5 speed model. I don't have the in-cab controller, the fronts are a little hard to change, the back are not really a problem. The difference between 1 and 5 is significant and I know immediately when towing that I forgot to change them.

On the other hand the guys with Bilstein's swear by them.

I have the Bilstien "OEM" shocks. Really like them. Have been on for 1-2 yrs, and no problems. They are firmer than the ones that Dodge put on, but not enough to be a problem for me. Ordered mine through AutoZone.
