99 Dodge Ram Quad with a Diesel at 75,000 miles.



I live on a hillside and have a steep driveway to the garage. Since moving to this new house, I got the constant drip from the breather tube :(



Any solutions available?

Thanks for the idea! My driveway is dirt and thus hides puddles real well. Only recently did I notice how much oil is coating the bottom of my truck ( and starter power cables)... .

Hopefully not a signal of other internal problems...

It took about 35 minutes to install, & I paid $225. 00 at the local Cummins Dealer. It's well worth it.



The hardest part of the install was pushing the return line into the front dipstick hole (not used on our trucks), I used a nail bar & everything went fine.



The best part is looks like it was meant to be there, not some oil bottle moved around...

GKarpen, From what I picture aren't you making a P-trap that will trap oil? :confused: Do you ever have to empty it? I'm looking to do something with my vent. I've had a bottle hanging on with a wire for some time now, but still get a fair amount of oily messy on the front end.

I have done that on some larger trucks, and its usually only a matter of time before tha vapor coats the tube and acumulates and drips. the only other way I have been thinking about is using something like our engines in a marine aplication.

There is another option for the oil vent similar to the fleetgard system but more complex. I have one on my rig it is the made by Walker engineering and is called an Airsep.

I heard that there's a TSB on this very topic and that the dealership will put some kind of cover on and relocate the line... any truth to this?? Just something to check out although I try to stay away from such places.
 
Look about half way down my mods page to see what I did.



I have a 12 valve so not quite the same deal but same idea. The Fleetguard setup looks good but is pretty expensive so the little bit of oil you save returning to the sump would take a long time to pay for itself so I just made my own system and it's working great. I have run it for about 9k miles now and I don't have any mess from oil mist. It condenses in all that hose and tank and then the filter stops what's left.
 
How did you remove the frost plug going into the dipstick hole? Are there any special tools required to make it easier? Suggestions appreciated.

So the wife said no more drip #@$%! in the driveway and with Silver Ram's suggestion, I got the Fleetguard Enviroguard kit for $190. 00 at Trebar Kenworth in Boise, ID. , best price I could find.



Mert at Stampede Dodge Boise/Nampa ID took on this modification and first ever attempt. Pulling the Plug is the hardest/difficult part of the job. With the current 76,000 miles, it was best to pull the power steering pump and put in a Vacuum pump kit in at the same time. Allowed for best access to the plug and most important less accidental scoring of the walls while removing the plug.



The private lane we live on has some area of 12% grade and I think our drive way is about 10%. I will update this later as to if any drips come back.
