Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Need generator help

My generator in my 01 will not charge. I cut the wires on the field and grounded the blue and powered the green and it charges fine. So at this point I am under the impression that my regulator in the pcm is shot. Am I missing any thing? And If it is bad what external regulator can I put in it? A pcm Is just to expensive for a small problem. :{
