Four months ago I purchased a 1995 extended cab long bed 12 valve all stock with 221000 miles paid $6000. 00 had the front end completely rebuilt, upper and lower ball joints, moog track bar, new axle seals, both front u-joints, new radiator, kdp fixed, also replaced front seal while there, new oval chrome nerf bars, new dash, new rear bumper, new tires and had it completely sanded down, all dents removed and painted, new tps. Just before i bought it the transmission was rebuilt. Yesterday (1-30-10) was turning left off of major highway, lady drunk and high on pills rearend us at 60 mph. I'm sure truck is totaled. But I'm afraid that her insurance company will only want to pay book price. Big loss for me. Anyone familiar with how this works. Any help greatly appreciated. Also had all leaks fixed, replaced some fuel lines and trans lines and interior completely restored.

I don't know much, but...

Unless you had it appraised for a higher value, you are at the mercy of your own insurance company as well as her's, and they will not care a whit about what you invested in the restoration of that truck.

Best hope is to get the insurance payoff AND the truck back and part what is left out.

You could always sue her in civil court, too, but people like that seldom have any assets to go after.

If you get real firm with her insurance company and show receipts and photos of the restoration you can beat it and get a better settlement. I did it with State Farm when one of my cars was totaled and I produced my receipts and photos. I did have a hard fight, but I got what it was worth. I took it right to the head of the claims office.
