Problems again with my '06. Seems star is really trying to avoid helping me here. Trucks been running rough for awhile. Took it in on the start of this trip and they insisited it was water, but never found none. then they said it was a unbalanced flywheel and not covered by warantee. 15,000 miles later and 2500 miles from home the engine light came on. brought it into the dealer right away, first he says an injector but doesn't have one in stock. Mind you I am in a hurry and 2500 miles from home. star wants him to swap out injectors to make sure thats the problem, and won't allow a reamnufactured injector under warantee. So the dealer says it will take a day to swap the injector, a day to order the new injector, which they only have a reamn... . in stock, and a day to install. I said if you are sure the injector is the problem I will just buy the reman... injector since it will be cheaper for me in the long run rather the waiting all this time. They tried the injector and it doesn't work. Now they said a ECM, star said a piston. Now the truck has sat since wendsday waiting for God knows what. The service manager went on a long weekend and the mechanic called in sick because he had no babysitter! yea, $200 a day extra cost for me to rent a truck, lost time and money because the Mech. has no babysitter! I am now being told a star rep is coming down, I'm on the road and don't know how to put a fire under these guys ***'s and get them doing something. My worried issue here is, I had a Edge chip on it, never, ever set over 3 and drove very concervitive. I took the chip off before I went to the dealer but it still had the hole in the manafod for the EGT. I plugged it with a bolt but it's obvious it's there. Will star hassle me over this and what's my recourse. Also, Is there anyone I can scream at to get there attention and get moving on my truck?

Yikes. More than likely if a rep comes from STAR to look at the truck they'll void your warranty due to the suspected presence of a fueling box. It's entirely possible the box caused the failure (if it's internal to the engine and not caused by something like bad fuel), and that's pretty much all DC needs in order to deny any warranty coverage.

As far as trying to light a fire under these guys, I'm not very good at such things so I have little advice to offer. They've basically got you by the short hairs here.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Why can't you have a EGT thingy that doesn't alter anything you were trying?

I don't understand, I've got a 05 that I've had a week, I'm sure going to put gauges on it, why would that void your warranty? I understand the criteria for voiding a warranty is that you had something aftermarket on it that caused the problem, and they can prove that it caused the problem. Seems to me that a hole in you exhaust manifold that is plugged with a bolt now-why can't you say you had something like outlook or something (that BD thing that is just a digital gauge, no modifications to fuel, timing etc. )

The dodge dealers could just void everybody's Cummins engine that had legitemate problems if they could point to custom valve stem covers and say you're voided! (We could come up with a board game for DC owners that's similar to Monopoly, instead of going bankrupt, you get voided-all based on the rolll of the dice!)

Anyway, that would be my attitude if they questioned me about the hole in the manifold.

Everybody, the dealers can't be THAT bad, can they?

It's the suspiciousness of the situation. I have gauges, and there's no way I would remove any of them if I went for warranty service - I have nothing to hide.

So why would someone remove an EGT probe before going to the dealer unless he was "up" to something? If you were simply monitoring EGT on a stock engine, there wouldn't be any reason at all to remove the probe before going to the dealer.

I'm saying the STAR rep is going to take one look at the missing EGT probe and come to the conclusion (false or not) that a fueling box was on the truck and the owner removed it prior to bringing it in for service.

And yes, they really can be "that bad". Profit margins are razor thin, and the Chrysler division is the losing part of DC. Despite the best efforts of Deter Zetsche (sp?) and others at the top, stockholders are asking (hoping) DC will sell Chrysler. When cutting costs, warranty costs are apparently a good place to start.

Its one thing if there is a pyro lead going to an anolog gauge. its another when these guys Know the Edge has a pyro tap (some dealers sell edge and bd stuff!) and there is a pipe plug where the pyro goes its a pretty goo indication you played with it. Sux, but thats the way it is. Yes, the warranty act states they have to prove the item caused the failure. However, they have more money to spend on lawyers than you do.

Suggestions

You can always call their 800 # and insist on speaking to the area service mgr. He can make anything happen.

Should that fail: Do you have a loan on your truck and especially if you have it through Chrysler Financial then you have a big stick? Pls advise.

my experience would say voided, they will for anything if they dont want to work on it, i have had 3 new dodges and all 3 had a warranty issue while being mostly stock, one was all stock, one had an exhaust, the other had ex and level lift with 315s, its up to the dealer, sorry about the bad luck, if i was near, i would come help. . :(

you could tell them you temporarly installed an egt gauge to check out the temps out curiosity but had to give it back to your buddy. i havent run any engine mods because of reliability and warrenty but i have analog gauges if i have to plead my case if i do mod. at least you pulled the prob and plugged it unlike some ive seen.

Please give me the 800# I know nothing about the area service manager. Also I was thinking of telling them I was just checking the egt's because the truck was running so bad. My issue is though I have several other after market things on my truck such as Air bags, exhaust, Pacbrake exhaust brake, I think they will suspect an after market chip. But I promise I never abused it so even if they can check history on the computer I don't think they could prove abuse.

Let me ask this also, if my warantee is denyed, should I have them fix it anyway and give these a... . holes my shirt off my back or should I find a reputable after market shop to do my repairs?

Ck your owners manual. Also you didn't say re: do you have a vehicle loan and is it with Chrysler? It's important.
