IMPORTANT QUESTION - injectors and pump timing

My buddy has a 92 and asked me about getting more hp. He is not mechanicly inclinded. So he asked if Id do the work. I drive a 98. 5. So what works? How much hp can we get? Injectors, pump work, etc. Hes not looking for overkill, just more pull for his horse trailer. Thanks Bob

I don't think "overkill" is possible, we can't get enough fuel for that... . arrr:mad: :p Anyway, is the truck completely stock? Auto or manual trans? Here's a general progression of bomb's:

GAUGES FIRST!

bigger exhaust (loose the muffler, just my preference:D )

more intake airflow, ie K&N, BHAF, etc.

16cm exhaust housing

tweak the pump

install bigger injectors

tweak the pump again and advance timing

These are easy and not too expensive. If ya wanna go further, then there's always auto trans mods, an NV4500 swap, new cam, a PDR HX35, and of course a nice set of STACKS!! :D

As for rear wheel horsepower, I think that 130 or so is stock, 180 is no problem, 200-280 with injectors, 300 with "wildman" tweaks:D

I read the info that TST has in there ad on the pump. sounded pretty simple. I have a 12cm housing off my 98. 5 and i read the posts in the last TDR on swapping housings. Ill try and talk him into the housing, injectors, intake and exhaust. I dont think he want to put any thing in the transmission. Thanks HAPPY T-day

Rob:

If you have the 12 cm housing i'd install it because it would be free compared to the 16 cm housing. It makes a very noticable difference. It's an easy swap and about 1 1/4" needs to be removed from the downpipe. I didn't really notice any hotter exhaust temps, I gained much more power(low end), and about 9 pounds of boost. All of this done without tweaking the pump, I'm going to put in a bigger set of injectors this winter so she should beller some smoke out then:D As I said, personally, I've towed my John Deere 4020 (10500#) with about a 5000# trailer and I gained one gear on a particular hill and the pyrometer will max out at about 1200* and never get any hotter.
