Do you already have an Internet Service Provider lined up to host your domain and web site on their servers? If not, that is the next step. You can either use a local hosting company in your hometown, or perhaps the company with whom you registered the domain name.

Once you have that in place, you can create a web site that is as simple or fancy as you'd like. For a very basic web site, you could just use MS-Word and save the documents with a .htm extension. For fancy sites you might want to buy MS-FrontPage or some other web site creation software.

With the MS-Word option, you can just use some FTP freeware to transfer your .htm files to the ISP's hosting server. The ISP will have to help you with how to gain access to their server due to security, etc.

I know this was somewhat vague, but I hope it helps.

Your domain name registration is just that - you are leasing that name for a period of time. You now need to sign up with a hosting company to actually host the web page. One I recommend is http://www.cyberwurx.com - you can get a hosting package there for as little as $4. 25 a month but for you I'd recommend one of their Legend hosting plans starting at $6. 25 a month. For design a program I used when I got started was Hot Metal Pro. I liked it much better than front page. Microsoft Front Page is probably the most popular markup package out there. If your looking to hire someone let me know as that's what I do.

Check "Trellix" - they have a free version website builder. Piece of cake. AFAIK, most big ISPs have/give you space for a website and the tools to build it. Eartrhlink sure does. :)

Good advice all around. RT66DOC had a good suggestion. Check with the company you have your home Internet service with. Many times you get up to 10MB of web site hosting free with your existing account. With mine, I only have to pay extra for them to host my domain name for me. Registering the the domain name is one expense, but hosting it is yet another.

You should really consider paying someone like Steve to get your site going initially. You can then slowly learn to update it yourself. Or, if money is not available to pay someone, try to find a high school or tech school student learning web development to do it as a free project for class credit.

I have my website http://www.klenger.net/ hosted by PowWeb.com. $7. 77 per month including domain registration fees. Click on the link above and then click on the PowWeb icon for further details.

What type of information are you planning on putting on your website?

I use Microsoft Publisher to write my pages because I have been using it for years and it's like second nature. For customizing what I want(not necessary) I just edit the HTML that Publisher makes.

Once you create your files you will need to download them to the site using an FTP (file transfer protocol) program. I use a free program called FTP explorer.
