Need Help Buying a new trailer

I'm looking at buying bumper pull trailer to haul around my Jeep and my '49 Chevy Truck (not at the same time). I am looking at either a trailer rated at 7000 lb or 10000 lb. The Jeep only weighs 4500 lb, but I know the truck is considerably heavier. Will a 7000 lb trailer stand up to years of towing or should I step up to the 10,000 lb trailer? I am also looking to spend as little money as possible, will don't mind paying more for a heavy duty item if needed. Thanks for any help guys.
 
I used a 10,000 bumper pull to haul my truck, 8000 pounds.

Some guys say it bent becuase the load was on all 4 corners, it can only haul 10000 EVENLY loaded!!(-trailer weight)





I would definately buy 2000 more than you need.
 
The trailer itself will weigh around 2000 lbs. You can by a car hauler (16 ft by 6feet 10 in between wheel wells 7000 gvw) for around $1800 generally. When you step up to 10000 gvw you are talking close to $2800. As long as you dont exceed the gvw by much more than 500 to 600 lbs. Id think the 7000 gvw should work. Alot depends on how much you use it If you were going to be pulling it for 100 miles every weekend Id probably go with a heavier trailer, but a couple of times a month the lighter one should work.
 
I just purchased a trailer to tow my race car and hopfully the golfcart on. Its 20 ft long with a steal floor and 6 ft pull out ramps it weights 2120 pounds with the standard axels it only tows 7000 pounds that gives you 4880 pounds of pay load capacity. I would get the 10,000 pound trailer with bakes on both axels. Try this site for a price thay were resonable on price and thay are willing to modify the trailers and have a large selection of paint.

My favorite is a Diamond Back by Big Tex Manufacturing. The weigh around 2,000#, pull like a dream and haul a bunch. The frame is square tubing bent, not cut and welded.

They generally are around $2200 with brakes.
 
Thanks for all the replies. I ended up buying a 20' gooseneck rated at 14,000# from a fellow TDR member. If that ain't strong enough, I'm in trouble. :)
