I was driving back home after a weekend of elk hunting, I'd been on the interstate for about 200 miles with the cruise control set at 70. When I took my exit, everything seemed fine, then when I tried to turn, the pedal was dead. The truck did not die and sounded normal, but nothing happened when I pushed the go pedal. I shut the truck off, and started it again and everything was normal, ran fine and the accelorator pedal worked fine, but the check engine light was on. I check the codes (with the ignition) and came up with:

P0121 (M) TPS Voltage Does Not Agree With

MAP

TPS signal does not correlate to MAP sensor signal.

P0121 (M) Accelerator Position Sensor (APPS)

Signal Voltage Too Low

APPS voltage input below the minimum acceptable

voltage.

From this, I'm guessing that the problem lies with the APPS. My question is do I need to replace it, how difficult is the job and how much can I expect to pay for the part. The truck has been running fine and the check engine light went out after a few starts. I need the truck next weekend (couldn't manage to find any elk) and since I'll be hunting I'll be a ways from home and any help. Is this something that could leave me straned in the middle of nowhere?

There are several posts on this I would do a search using Automatic Transmissions. That was what I did and found a lot of usful information. There is a guy on here Timbo I believe that sells an after market APPS made By Williams that is a little less than half the price of the Factory APPS. I had the same problem about two years ago but after a bunch of fixes found on here it has not re-appeared.

The symptom you present is typical of a dying VP44 which doesn't always throw a code before it dies. Try resetting the APPS. Order a new APPS from Timbo (pm him here on TDR) if you wish as you will need one at some point. The symptom may reappear next week or it may be two months before you see it again.

Good luck hunting elk!

Godspeed,
Trent
