Help dealer is not having any luck in finding a solution keep getting a dtc

u0101 lost comunication with tcm happens mostly when truck is cold

so i am thinking that it is a loose connection but not sure anybody elde have this problem truck is a 2007 ram 3500 6. 7l 6spd auto

If your truck is down at the dealer and they are clueless send pms to Mike Mullenax, sag2, and Bob4x4. All three of them are Cummins dealer techs.

The first thing I would advise is to have the Dealer technician run the vehicle reconfiguration routine with the Wi-tech scan tool. Sometimes if the battery voltage gets too low the TIPM will lose it's configuration. Its a simple process, its in the TIPM section under the miscellaneous heading. The next thing I would need to know is which control modules are setting the P0101 trouble code, ie: TIPM,ECM,ABS,... modules. This is a communication issue with the TCM not sending DATA to one or more of the other modules. It can get complicated.

Other codes

I will post the other codes tomorrow that he pulled with scan tool

from the way he explained it it did get complicated i pulled the connector from the abs and reinstalled it this morning is the first day in a week that it didnot throw the code i doubt it was that easy thx for response i will see what happens in the morning

other codes

P0700 U0101 U0141 U0100 U0121

THESE ARE THE OTHER CODES THX FOR THE HELP

nothing this morning either running good except left front u-joint is going out

Here is a simplified schmatic of the BUS wiring on a truck. I did not put all the modules, but this will give you an idea how the system works

This is how all the modules communicate with each other through this wiring called the "CAN Bus" (Controller Area Network Bus). There are three different Bus designations, DIAGNOSTIC CAN C Bus, CAN C Bus,and CAN B Bus. Each one operating at a different baud rate (a measurement of computer data transfer speed) so the TIPM is used as a gateway so that it is possible for all the modules to communicate with each other.

All of the DTC's that you posted are loss of communication codes, meaning that one or more of the modules did not receive a signal from the other modules.

The TIPM is programed with the vehicle configuration, The program lets the TIPM know which modules are installed on the vehicle.

Most of the time when I see multiple communication codes like this I find that the TIPM has lost its configuration program or the configuration has been corrupted. This is why my first repair advise is to make sure that the vehicle configuration is restored in the TIPM.

Thanks for the reply would a configuration or a corrupted tipm cause it to be so random it was fine on thuresday and friday went out and started it up this morning and there it was again let the truck warm up for about 5-7 min came back out and it had cleared it self the U0101 was still in there and the check engine light on but it had turned off the little gear and trans temp light and was no longer in limp mode this is just so frustrating i have the truck for sale but dont want to pass this on to someone else

Just so you will understand, It will be ok to have them reprogram the TIPM if there is a new program availible, But what needs to be done is to have them " Restore The Vehicle Configuration". This is a totally different process than reprograming the TIPM.

One other thing that just occured to me, You need to make sure that both of your batteries are in good condition. Some times when one of the batteries are a little weak it will cause the TIPM to lose its configuration. Also keep in mind that the batteries need to be disconnected from each other when they are tested.

Thx Mike i will have them try that but this truck has me so ****** off i am taking it to toyota on friday and trading it in this is my third dodge truck and probably my last this truck was great till i hit 50k then seems like every time i start it there is somthing else

ball joint at 46k left front ujoint 50k all my other dodges made it atleast 100k till i had any problems

I'm only trying to be helpful so please don't take this the wrong way, but think when you have a very clear mind... . is there any event that happened right before you had this problem, stereo install etc. jumpstart ,battery replacement, component change. body work ... . anything that someone else could have done that may be related to the first signs of trouble????

Well, this is a loooooooooong shot, but what ended up being the fix for this? I've been having the SAME issue with my truck. Did the configuration restore fix it?

I ended up getting the truck warm then drove down to dealer and traded it in for jeep

I ended up trading it in for a Jeep Wrangler.

After it was warm lol

So when I had a tough issue I called Chrysler Care and explained my problem.... 800-992-1997 and they opened a claim for the dealer to call and get assistance... even after 2 more trips to the dealer did I find out the service tech never called STAR for their assistance... on the third trip, now with a total of 6 trips to 3 different dealers.... did the service tech, after my insistence called STAR....

They found that the first dealer who did the T0-5 recall had made several mistakes and Chrysler bought a bunch of new parts... and gave me enough information to go back on 2 of the dealers and seek refunds (total of over $1000) of work done that wasn't needed... simple parts replacer's....

I was impressed with the quality of service of the program and lack of respect by the technician in the dealer..... its like they have this attitude that they can fix anything even when they are over their heads....

I had this error show up after a heavy rain.
It was a ground wire, at the o2 module that provided consistent fails upon finding and testing.

Thanks for the response!

Interesting. The issue I've been having has been VERY intermittent, but I will look into the o2 module. Just to make sure, is this the piece you're referring to?
