I'm going to install a set of mirrors off a '01 on my '96. Can someone tell me what wires mean what on the '98 - '01 mirror wiring harness.

The colors are:
(2) light blue
(2) black
(1) yellow
(1) white w/ black stripe

I know my '96 isn't wired for the heated mirrors, and I think the harness on my '96 has only three wires. How do the heated mirrors function? Are the always on with the ignition? I think I want to put the heated function on a toggle switch.

TIA for the help,
Ryan

The mirrors are switched on and off and can only operate with the ignition on.

Now I have the manual. A logic circuit controls the heat function. It times the heater and will shut it down after 15 minutes.

From your post:
The colors are:
(2) light blue
(2) black
(1) yellow
(1) white w/ black stripe

Tell me where you are looking. Is it in the door. According to the manual:

The Left Power Mirror has:
1)Dark Blue/White - left/right adjustment
2)Yellow/Pink - left mirror select
3) Yellow - up/down adjustment
4) Black/light gray - Heater

Right Mirror
1) Yellow/Black - Up/down
2) White - right mirror select
3) Dark Blue - Left/right adjustment
4) Black/Light Gray - Heater

Not sure if this helps but this is what my 2000 manual shows.

The heater is driven from a relay that is logic controlled. When the heater is turned on it applies a logic signal to a timer that in turn powers the relay that when closed, applies power to the mirror heaters.

Alan,
Thanks for the info.

Actually I got the colors off the wiring harness on the mirror. I checked both mirrors and they have the same colors listed in my post. Maybe I'll stop by a slavage yard and try to get the end of the harness that is on the truck. I see if that helps.

Thanks for the info on the heated function also. That shouldn't be a big problem now. I'll put them on a 10 or 15 minute timer.

Thanks again, Ryan

Cooker, I was just talking to Lucerix about ordering a new set of towing mirrors for my truck and asked them why their part number for the 94-98 mirrors was different from the 99-01 version. They said the harness/connector changed in 98. That probably explains the difference in what you have and what I gave you as a response. I'll check my 98 manual tonight and see what the colors are in it.
